Israel has warned its citizens globally about the potential for terrorist attacks around 7 October, which marks a year since the start of its conflict with Hamas. Although other major Western governments have not, we assess that the anniversary will probably motivate extremists to carry out violence in the coming weeks, particularly in Europe and North America. Our report looks at their probable tactics and targets. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/e2HVgG4J #Extremism #October7 #IsraelHamas #securityintelligence

A sustained military conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, involving ground operations, is likely to continue over the next few months. Israel’s military objective seems to be completely defeating Hezbollah. We have outlined near-term (three-month) scenarios for the Israel-Hezbollah war to support planning for the rest of the year. These include key indicators and the implications of a sustained conflict, a potential escalation and the risk of a regional war. Every month, we provide our clients with an estimate of the overall trajectory for security and stability for each country for the coming 12 months. This October, we estimate that 165 countries will remain on a consistent trajectory and 37 are on a worsening one, including 12 countries that we had previously assessed as being on a consistent trajectory. Eight countries have an improving outlook (Bangladesh, Dominican Republic, Gabon, Luxembourg, Monaco, Mozambique, Senegal and Turkiye). This assessment is part of our Geostrategic Estimate report, the definitive monthly briefing product that provides high-level, anticipatory analysis of emerging geostrategic risks and trends. It also includes emerging issues; dates and situations to watch; and more. Isolated violent incidents targeting foreign nationals in China have increased over the past year. Four recent stabbings targeted US, Israeli and Japanese nationals. And the perpetrators of these attacks appear to be driven by extreme nationalism. Our assessment looks at the extreme nationalist rhetoric behind the violence and the likely nature of future attacks. *Dragonfly in the media* - Can Israel stop Hezbollah's rockets without a ground invasion of Lebanon? MENA analyst Hossam Abougabal speaks to the BBC 👇
Last week I told the BBC that an Israeli ground operation in southern Lebanon was not imminent. And that a more intense phase of its aerial campaign would come first. That phase now seems to be underway after Israeli airstrikes killed the Hezbollah leader this weekend. A ground invasion in the coming days and weeks now seems likely. As I pointed out last week, Israel is almost certain to intensify it's bombing of Lebanon (and Beirut), targeting critical infrastructure, to pave the way for its ground forces. But door-to-door fighting against a bruised and avenge-driven Hezbollah has a very high potential to last several months, if not years.
