We are delighted to announce that Dentons' Global Board of Directors and Global Advisory Committee have elected Kate Barton as the Firm’s next Global CEO. Kate will join Dentons from EY, where she has had a highly distinguished 35-year career in a variety of executive leadership roles, most recently as Global Vice Chair. She will succeed Elliott Portnoy, the founding Global CEO, who has served since the firm’s launch in 2013. Kate will join Dentons in early September to begin a meaningful handover period with Elliott, whose term ends on November 9, 2024. Kate will start her term as Global CEO on November 10, 2024. The UK Government has recently raised potential financial support for new renewable power projects to a record £1.56bn a year and is trying to create the conditions to get offshore wind farms off the ground as soon as possible. As nations race to decarbonise, floating offshore wind (FLOW) technology is emerging as a game-changer, capable of exploiting the vast and untapped potential of deep-water wind resources. Health care and aviation provide areas of unacknowledged risks for family offices. Findings in the Dentons survey report ‘The Evolving Risk Landscape for Family Offices’ show a transatlantic chasm in terms of accessing health care when needed. Only 17% of North Americans are concerned versus 41% of Europeans. Every minute counts in an emergency situation and prompt access can be a matter of life and death. On the aviation front, a majority of family offices operating private aircraft outsource key functions to specialized professionals. However, only one third have an emergency response plan in place to manage an aviation crisis – an essential component when protecting family privacy and coordinating with various government agencies.
