Next-gen Typhoon radar soars to new heights. ⛅ This afternoon, the European Common Radar System (ECRS) Mk2, which will equip Royal Air Force (RAF) pilots with the ability to locate, identify and suppress enemy air defences, has taken to the skies for the first time. Flown on a UK Typhoon from BAE Systems’ Lancashire facility and supported by the radar’s developer, Leonardo UK. Well done to all involved in reaching this significant milestone. 👏

With operational excellence as our North Star at Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) we are cutting waste and duplication, streamlining processes, speeding up decision-making and releasing more of our capacity to where it’s needed. This was just one of the key messages I wanted to get across when I spoke about our “Today, Tomorrow, Together” strategy and new operating model at Defence Transformation 2024. Our improved ways of working will deliver better and faster for our armed forces and our allies. They will enable us to be more agile, efficient and responsive in an increasingly complex global security landscape. In designing the new DE&S we have harnessed our greatest asset – our people – to create a model by us, for us. And now we are transforming how we manage our people to support more effective operations, while offering better opportunities as we enhance careers within DE&S. I’m incredibly proud to be involved in such an exciting transformation.

On #WorldMaritimeDay 🌊, we’re taking a deeper dive into our oyster 🦪 conservation initiative… 📽️ Hear from our SALMO Wrecks Environmental Manager and leader of the Whale Island Native Oyster Restoration Project, Harriet Rushton, about the first conservation project of its kind on UK Ministry of Defence estate. The Oysters, known as Ostrea edulis, are grown at Navy Command’s HMS Excellent HQ. Once fully grown, they will be released into The Solent to boost marine life and could help clean the water, optimising the operating environment for Royal Navy vessels. Proudly partnered with 👉 Royal Navy, Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and Blue Marine Foundation.
