Last week, our Credit Unions Consultancy Services hosted an ESG webinar, with some insightful takeaways. Credit unions (CU) are excelling in the social and governance aspects of the ESG framework, engaging in environmental initiatives, including sustainable lending practices as well as improving their own carbon footprint by sourcing renewable energy, upgrading buildings and encouraging digital business practices. While the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) does not apply to credit unions, adopting a CSRD light approach to analysing, measuring and reporting on ESG risks will be beneficial , as well as building ESG questions into lending criteria. From an investment perspective, CUs would like to see EU taxonomy applied to our sustainable investing activities.
