One of the most divisive myths in the realm of cyber insurance: cyber claims don't get paid. Is this true? Tiago Henriques, VP of Research at Coalition, Inc. doesn't think so. In fact, he believes insurance go further than just paying claims, He shared his thoughts during his interview with Anthony on the CYBER INSURANCE LEADERS Community Podcast: 1️⃣ Cyber Insurance Pays Claims Tiago says that cyber claims are frequently paid. Take the famous Zurich-Mondelez case, for example. That case wasn't even under cyber cover! 2️⃣ It's Not Just About Money Insurance providers, especially those with robust incident response teams, do more than just pay the ransom. They assist companies in navigating through, perhaps, the worst days of their existence—right from the moment of a ransomware attack to getting the business back on track. 3️⃣ Insurance ≠ Security One misleading narrative is that investing in a cyber insurance policy equates to a free pass on maintaining security standards. This could not be further from the truth. Responsible cyber insurance providers offer roadmaps to evolve your cybersecurity maturity model. 👇 What's your take on this? 🚨 BREAKING NEWS: Not everything is breaking news. While the media might have you believe that every cyber threat fluctuation is a breaking news event, here's a contrarian take: It's not. Here's why: 👉 Cyber Trends Are Misleading: Just because ransomware attacks dip temporarily doesn't mean it's time to scale back on your defenses. 👉 The Big Picture Matters More: Focusing on the macro trends, like the consistent threat of cybercrime, is far more critical than reacting to every micro change. The reality? Cybersecurity isn't about reacting to every headline but building a resilient defense that stands the test of time. Thoughts? Comment below 💬 ... Privacy law regulators in Canada are gaining more power 💪 Traditionally in Canada, breaches of privacy laws would be investigated by an ombudsman. But things are changing. In Quebec, Law 25 sparked a shift in the way provinces and the federal government tackle non-compliance, placing more power into the hands of regulators, and allowing them to issue significant fines. Now, Bill C-27 (The Consumer Privacy Protection Act) has entered the fold with the goal to balance individuals’ interests in the protection of their personal information with organizations’ needs. Integrating cybersecurity advisory into insurance doesn't have to be daunting. Keep these five things in mind, says Dan Elliott, Head of Cyber Resilience at Zurich Resilience Solutions Australia, to achieve success: 1️⃣ Increase visibility: Highlight the expertise and value of cyber advisory services. 2️⃣ Educate clients: Explain the benefits of combining insurance with risk management. 3️⃣ Build trust: Assure clients that their information remains confidential. 4️⃣ Use NDAs: Implement formal agreements to protect client data. 5️⃣ Separate advisory from insurance: Make it clear that advisory services are independent of insurance decisions. ... Forget zero-day exploits and ransomware, Tiago Henriques, VP of Research at Coalition, Inc., believes that business interruptions—specifically, an AWS outage—could spell disaster for organizations. Here's why: 🔥 Pervasiveness: AWS powers a significant portion of the internet. An outage could have ripple effects across various industries. 🔥 Business Interruption: Even a minor glitch in AWS can lead to a standstill in operations, impacting revenue and reputation. 🔥 Lack of Awareness: Companies focus on more 'flashy' risks like ransomware, often neglecting the need for backup plans in case of AWS disruptions. The Solution? Tiago advises cyber insurance firms and modeling companies to: ➡️ Collaborate with cybersecurity experts ➡️ Understand the rapid evolution of technology What cyber risk keeps you up at night?
