Designing for wellbeing has been on the workplace agenda for some time now and as developers look to retrofit buildings into life science spaces, wellbeing cannot fall by the wayside. Each brought a unique perspective, from the evolving government policies to the integration of strategies and technologies that enhance energy efficiency and guest comfort. A few of the excellent points were: • Sustainability data reporting and improvements need to be included in HMAs. • Certification schemes can support asset management plans. • First steps of decarbonisation is the removal fossil fuel/scope 1 emissions from your property/portfolio. Thanks to all the panellists for the case studies too; they demonstrated practical steps/activities for a sustainable hospitality sector. We are proud to share that our project Al Nehem, the whale shark, has been shortlisted for the prestigious IABSE Award. This 20 tonne and 30 metre long icon quickly became a social media sensation for the World Cup. The IABSE - International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering Awards recognise the most remarkable, innovative, creative, or otherwise stimulating structures completed within the last few years. As a project award, it recognises the team effort of the engineers, architects, contractors, and the owner involved in completion of the project. Gym Town | Winners in Healthcare Lighting Design Leave it to Designer Pete Shing to put an elegant and luxurious spin on fitness. This lighting goal for this deluxe gym studio in the heart of central Hong Kong was to “ create a bespoke lighting solution that creates an opulent sense of exclusivity and wellbeing”. Along with the deliberate use of its signature tangerine colour palette to echo the Martian themes, both aesthetics and functionality were carefully incorporated by integrating the lighting scheme into an interior design inspired by the planet Mars.
