Updates

  • We recently held a Work Experience Week, where students from local schools took part in an array of activities. earlier this week we shared an update about their exclusive tour of the new Women and Children's Building, which is currently under construction. But did you know that they also took part in five placements across different areas of our hospitals during their week with us? Students were given a real insight into the different careers available in the NHS, ranging from procurement, facilities and cardiology to outpatients, health records and wards. At the end of the week, students delivered presentations on what they had learnt and shared their feedback. Student, Ruby, commented: “My favourite placement was with the Facilities team, as I was able to see behind the scenes of how patients are looked after. I really enjoyed meeting lots of new people.” Scarlett, another student participating in the week, added: “My favourite thing was visiting the coordination centre. I found it so interesting and it gave me an understanding of how many job roles and opportunities there are in healthcare.” We would like to thank all our staff who hosted the placements and took time to support the next generation - you've inspire our future workforce. #NHSWorkExperience #InspiringFutureGenerations

Today is International Security Officers Day and we would like to celebrate by recognising our hardworking and dedicated Trust security officers who put themselves at risk to safeguard staff and patients. Tim Lister, Head of Security, said: "The team are always on hand and no two days are ever the same, which is what we love about this job. We have 20 Security Officers covering the Countess of Chester Hospital and Ellesmere Port Hospital and duties can range from patrolling the hospital grounds to locating staff vehicles where assistance may be needed. We also escort staff when lone working, and quickly step in if a situation is escalating (and do welfare checks afterwards) to help keep staff and patients safe." Leroy, (left main picture) who is a security supervisor with 19 years’ service and Craig, (right main picture) who is a security officer with 11 years’ service will be celebrating the day along with the rest of the team with some well deserved delicious treats - just what is needed for a team that's always on the go! Thank you to all 20 colleagues in our Security team for all that they do. #SecurityOfficersDay #EmployeeAppreciation

The construction of our new Women and Children's Building reached a significant milestone recently when a special 'topping out' ceremony was held to mark the symbolic completion of the building's frame. This is an important event in the construction process, and marks the beginning of the countdown to completion of the three-storey building, which is due to open to the public next summer. Our Chief Executive Jane Tomkinson OBE led the pour of the final concrete at the momentous event, where she was joined by staff and members of the construction team. Over the next few months, workers will be gradually turning the shell into a workable building, by applying outside cladding and wiring, and plastering painting and decorating, to remain on track for opening. This great drone footage shows the dismantling of the two large cranes that were on site for much of the last year. https://lnkd.in/ggybwqjQ

  • Last week, the future generation of possible NHS and construction workers got an exclusive tour of the construction of our brand new Women and Children's Building as it continues to take shape. Twenty-three Year 10 students from several local schools in the area joined the Trust for a week of work experience to find out about the 350 different types of careers available in the NHS and the routes in. As well as the tour, the students took part in work placements and attended several workshops, demonstrations and presentations about the different NHS careers. Molly Whelan, Vocational Development Manager, said: "We were thrilled to welcome our local students and offer them this unique experience. Not only will they have gained practical knowledge and skills from their time with us, but they also witnessed first-hand the exciting advancements in our Women and Children’s services as the related building that is fit for the future goes up before their very eyes. We hope the week inspired them to consider futures in these essential careers. " #NHSFutureGeneration #NHSWorkPlacements

Join our Council of Governors ❗❗ Could you be one of our new governors? We're holding a drop-in session on Thursday, 18 July at 1:00pm for anyone looking to find out more about the role and to speak to one of our governors. If you would like to come along, please email: [email protected] or call: 01244 364706. The deadline for nominations is 2 August. Lucy Liang, who has been a governor for the past two years, explains: "For me, being a governor is very rewarding and I get a lot out of it. It's great to be able to voice the public's feedback at governor level. We are the public's voice to take feedback on board. It is for the good of the community - and as a British citizen we have an obligation to contribute. It is very important we engage members as that's the moment of truth that can give accurate feedback for the hospital, to know how well they serve the public and their patients and improve, make things better. Being a public governor is rewarding and fun - it's not too much hard work, you are there to be a voice and a listener. Join our Council of Governors We are looking for new members to join our Council of Governors. If you'd like to have a say in the future of our hospitals, we'd love for you to join us. Governor Caroline Stein, who is in her 10th year of being a Governor for the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust says she became a governor so she could have a voice, which she finds extremely rewarding: "I wanted to be as involved with my local hospital as much as I possibly could and I always tried to do that, it is very rewarding. I feel I am making a difference and supporting my local hospital to be the best it can possibly be. "You are the eyes and ears of the hospital and if you think something needs to be changed, you're able to tell the right people and take action. That's what being a governor is about, not just sitting in a board meeting. You're making a real difference," she said.
