We're so happy to hear Mila had such a positive experience with us! It’s inspiring to know that she was able to see firsthand our commitment to protecting the environment - it's truly in our DNA. Mila, we wish you all the best with your Environmental Science studies. We certainly want to encourage more women to pursue technical roles in the industry. Keep up the great work! Women In Mining UK (WIM UK)
Work experience.... Is it an ESG tick-box exercise? Or is an opportunity to inspire the next generation, whilst working on your employer-brand at the same time? For Cornish Lithium Plc it certainly is the latter. My daughter, and therefore our family, have been on an epic journey since September 2020 when Mila started tic'ing (turned out to be Tourette's) and had awful and terrifying seizures. With lots of positivity, encouragement, therapy and support from numerous people our lives now look very different... better! Connection with nature has played an important role in her development. And Mila spent hours and hours exploring woods near our house, where two old mines have completely returned to nature. A love of rocks was born, and she is now determined to become a Geologist. Enter Tracy Gay, Associate CIPD, Thomas Naylor and the wider team at Cornish Lithium Plc. Nothing was too much trouble when Mila was allowed to spend 3 days with them to do her work experience. She had been worried about the impact mining has on nature, and this is certainly justified. But not with Cornish Lithium Plc. Mila witnessed time and again that nature was always considered first, and learned that lithium mining, key of course for EV batteries, can and of course should be done responsibly. About 8% of the UK need for lithium for the next 20 years will come from here, in addition to a further 20-25% from Imerys British Lithium Limited. So at least a third of our lithium will come from Cornwall. But there is a huge skills-gap. Hundreds of skilled jobs need to be filled. So how inspired was it to experience how Cornish Lithium Plc approach this. An enthusiastic lover of rocks is now certainly a future Geologist. She is determined to go to Callywith College where she will also study Environmental Science. Thanks everyone at Cornish Lithium Plc for the outstanding support and inspiration you have given a young woman, who has overcome so many challenges! And fun fact ... Cornish miners still eat pasties for lunch 🤣
