Recently Zoe and Emma from our Environmental team, visited students at Threemilestone School to deliver a presentation on sustainability and the sustainability considerations for the construction of the Northern Access Road (NAR) project. Threemilestone School is located only 0.8 miles from the NAR main compound, so it was a perfect opportunity to raise awareness of the scheme within the local community. The children learnt about what sustainability means globally and the impacts of climate change from unsustainable activities. They discussed sustainability in the context of Cormac and focused on generating energy from biomethane and recycling PPE and what individuals can do to live more sustainably by making simple everyday swaps. The presentation also focussed on what the NAR project was and how this was an example of sustainable development. The team also explained what Cormac is doing to ensure we operate sustainably whilst construction of the NAR is being undertaken including mitigating impacts on local wildlife and recycling waste. The presentation was concluded with a safety message reminding pupils to never enter a construction site. It was a great to meet the students and share some of the positive work Cormac is doing. #Sustainability #Environment #Wildlife #Community #Cornwall

Our environment teams in the east had the opportunity to contribute to the success of the Urban Green Shoots project in the early spring. They carefully prepared the area, scarifying the verges before seeding with a wildflower mix. As a result, there is now a magnificent display of wildflowers on the verges along Plymouth Road in Liskeard. It's a joy to see the positive impact of this work.🌺🦋🐝 #Nature #Environment #Cormac #Liskeard

On 14 February 2024 plans to create a new Sports Hub at Langarth Garden Village were formally approved by Cornwall Council. Final works are now being completed on the first phase of the project – a floodlit 3,000-capacity FA-compliant football pitch and stands – enabling Truro City Football Club to return home for the start of the 2024 / 2025 football season. Turning a muddy field at the edge of the Park and Ride into a new permanent home for the club in such a short period of time is a fantastic achievement which has seen hard work, enthusiasm and commitment from everyone involved in the project. Backed by Sports England and key local stakeholders, including local Cornwall Councillors Dulcie Tudor and David Harris, Kenwyn Parish Council and Truro City, this first phase of the Sports Hub has been successfully delivered by Treveth Holdings in partnership with Cornwall Council with support from CORMAC and Truro City Football Club. “What we have learnt from a number of other schemes, not just nationally, but internationally as well, is that it is very difficult to create a community without having the infrastructure in place first “ said Harry Lewis, portfolio director for Treveth Holdings LLP. “Our objective has been to create a community at Langarth Garden Village from day one. Not only will this new pitch provide a home for Truro City Football Club, it also provides us with the first building block in the creation of this new community. “Two years ago Truro City Football Club had a dream of returning to their home town to play football again. We are very proud of the role played by Treveth and Cornwall Council through our new partnership LGV Property Holdings LLP in turning their dream into reality. Delivering this ambitious and high profile project in such a tight timescale (the pitch needs to be ready by the beginning of August), was always going to be a challenge. Add in the topography of the site and an extremely long period of wet weather in the Spring and it was clear that carrying out the extensive earthworks required and then laying the pitch in time for the end result to meet the standards set down by the FA were going to create additional challenges for all involved. The design and construction of the pitch has been carried out by CORMAC wit support from Prenn Ltd, CAD architects, Advance Engineering, PC Surveyors, and Airey & Coles. The team of up to 50 CORMAC staff and sub-contractors, with support from Treveth project manager Richard Cleghorn, were determined not to be beaten and rose to the challenge – ensuring that the green pitch was ready for inspection at the crucial time. We are thrilled to announce that The Healing Garden at Treliske Hospital, Truro for Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust has won, "Community Engagement Project of the Year” at the Construction News Awards. We are proud to have been part of this important project, designed to create a space for critically ill patients to experience the healing power of nature. Congratulations to all involved in bringing this space to life! #nature #environment #teamwork

We're bursting with pride today... Our Critical Care Healing Garden at the Royal Cornwall Hospital has won “Community Engagement Project of the Year” at the national, and highly prestigious, Construction News Awards. The Critical Care Healing Garden was opened in September 2023 after an extensive community fundraising campaign led by Cornish explorer Sir Robin Hanbury-Tenison alongside the RCHT Charity RCHT team, and the Critical Care team. Funded entirely by charitable donations, the courtyard can accommodate two hospital beds, as well as other critically-ill patients in wheelchairs, alongside their carers, families, and even pets. It is also one of the first gardens in the UK to be fitted with piped medical gases, making it accessible to even the most poorly of patients, who can experience the outdoors and nature as part of their recovery. Most days, the garden accommodates up to four patients, helping them to cope with their treatment and rehabilitation. The garden was designed by local Cornwall-based landscape architect Lavigne Lonsdale with extensive input from patients and staff. Construction was led by local contractor CORMAC, alongside Southwest Surfacing Specialists, also based in Cornwall. Truro-based WARD WILLIAMS ASSOCIATES LLP provided cost advice free of charge. Donations of time and materials were made from organisations, groups and individuals across the county, including from local artist Kurt Jackson, and the head gardeners from The Lost Gardens of Heligan, National Trust: Glendurgan Garden and The Palace Gardener. Lisa Niemand, Critical Care Matron at RCHT said: “Winning this award means a huge amount to our Critical Care team. It recognises the input and collaboration of the whole community – patients, families, RCHT staff, contractors and suppliers, artists, fundraisers, and more! This journey would not have been achieved without everyone working together and combining clinical need with hospital constraints to deliver our outstanding healing garden.” Karen Murrish. RCHT Charity’s Fundraising Manager said: “We are thrilled the Critical Care Healing Garden has been recognised by Construction News as the best community engagement project in the UK this year. The RCHT Charity team is very proud to have supported the fundraising campaign and grateful to all of those who have donated and helped to make it possible.” Roberta Fuller, Associate Director for Major Capital Projects at RCHT, said: “It’s amazing to win this award for our Critical Care Healing Garden. It’s been a true community effort, not only in achieving the fundraising, but also all the local contractors who worked on the project, as well the generous donations made from local businesses. All have played a massive role in delivering this outstanding space for our critically-ill patients.” Martyn Lonsdale Craig T. Robert Hague MCMI Lynne Lees Kym Vigus Carolyn Garman
