Supporting Integrated Healthcare Planning: A Process and Product Approach After a year partnering with Kent and Medway Integrated Care System (ICS), we've gained invaluable insights into driving integration across NHS Integrated Care Boards and local council partners. Together, we're implementing Sidm Health - our location data analytics platform to support healthcare estates planning and population health management, fostering collaboration among multiple stakeholders. Reflecting on the journey so far, three things stand out: Lesson 1: Engagement and Process Before Product From the outset, Kent and Medway ICS teams proactively reached out, identified key stakeholders, and propelled engagement forward. Their leadership united over 25 diverse teams—including public health, local councils, estates planners, and service providers—to shape how Sidm Health would tackle their specific challenges. One stakeholder noted, “The collaboration with Coplug has significantly improved how we work with local councils. Without Sidm Health, we wouldn’t be as closely aligned with them as we are today.” Lesson 2: Data—A Key Part of Integration Success hinged on coordinating across a broad range of stakeholders. Pulling data from 13 councils, four hospital trusts, and various providers was an immense challenge. By collaborating with BI teams where data integration was mature and developing data collation with councils, we managed to bring all the layers of data together within Sidm Health. A user remarked, “We have never before had a simple way to layer public health and workforce data onto baseline activity... The visualization ability of the tool allowed us to really see where our activity growth would be highest.” Lesson 3: Tailored Training to Empower Diverse Users To encourage greater uptake of Sidm Health and increase capability within multiple teams,  workshops and group training sessions were organised for over 60 staff members—more than 80% were non-analysts or new to mapping tools that create maps. The interface and analytics were curated based on job roles, enabling users to quickly gain relevant insights. As a result, teams across strategy, estates, and operations can start to confidently make data-driven decisions. Final Thoughts Our ongoing partnership has reiterated the importance of  proactive collaboration, data integration and focus on increasing capability within multiple teams. The success achieved is a testament to the commitment of the teams involved and their continuous effort to enhance data-driven decision-making. We’re not done yet!

Are GP Shortages the Real Story? The BBC recently highlighted GP shortages (link in comments), such as Thurrock with 3,431 patients per GP, but this analysis doesn’t tell the full story. Sidm Health has ranked over 1,200 Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and found that focusing solely on GP data overlooks key factors that influence healthcare access, such as age demographics, workforce distribution, and language barriers. Going Beyond Headlines: Age and Access Matter National data highlights GP shortages, but the picture changes when we consider age demographics and language barriers. For instance, The Marsh PCN has 8,622 patients per GP and 24.82% of its population aged 66-80, a group that requires twice as many appointments as younger populations. Similarly, Aegis Healthcare PCN faces challenges with 9.33% of its population aged 66-80 and 1.37% unable to speak English, adding complexity to care delivery and need for more face to face appointments. What Else Affects Healthcare Access? Focusing solely on GPs misses other significant pressures, like nurse shortages. For example, Brent West Kwh PCN has a GP ratio with 4,739 patients per GP, but faces a severe shortage in nursing, with 20,248 patients per nurse. Our analysis highlights that out of the top 10 PCNs with poor GP-to-patient ratios, seven are more deprived, while three are above the England benchmark. A holistic analysis of GP ratios, nurse shortages, age demographics, and language barriers offers decision-makers a more complete view of workforce pressures and access needs. The Key Takeaway? Aggregating data at higher levels, as in the BBC’s report, is a good starting point but decision makers need holistic and local insights. By diving deeper into PCN-level data, Sidm Health highlights the real disparities across workforce, estates and population health needs, ensuring more effective resource allocation. Get in touch to find out more about the range of insights provided by Sidm Heath to support healthcare planning. Data Source: NHS Digital 2024, may include some discrepancy in workforce data Let’s rethink healthcare planning—are you ready to look deeper? #HealthcareWorkforce  #PCNAnalysis #WorkforcePlanning #GPShortages #NurseShortages #PrimaryCare #NHSDigital #HealthTech #LocationAnalytics Disclaimer: Shakespeare Medical Practice PCN omitted due to low confidence in the workforce data.

New housing targets will further increase this pressure. As new people move to the area, capturing fluid PCN boundaries becomes particularly challenging, making it difficult to reflect the dynamic nature of the communities they serve. 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 SIDM Health uses advanced geospatial analysis techniques to define catchments, linking data, housing growth and insights to each neighbourhood with up-to-date information. This precision helps PCNs understand the true scope of their service areas, addressing geographic disparities and resource allocation challenges. 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘈𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘉𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨: SIDM Health enables comparison and ranking of PCNs against benchmarks such as Place, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), and country-level data. 𝘗𝘰𝘱𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘎𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨: SIDM Health provides more accurate and timely forecasts for PCNs by integrating housing data from councils, unlike conventional methods that rely on Office for National Statistics (ONS) forecasts. 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 Many NHS organisations and consultancies have already leveraged SIDM Health to build prioritisation frameworks, support estate strategies, develop business cases and unlock decision making. By aligning their services with the actual needs of the community and available capacity, ICBs and PCNs can plan new services effectively and ensure optimal workforce and estate utilisation. “𝘞𝘦’𝘷𝘦 𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘚𝘐𝘋𝘔 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘰𝘶𝘳 [𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦] 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘺, 𝘥𝘳𝘢𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘶𝘱𝘰𝘯 𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘢 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘕𝘏𝘚 𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨. 🌍 At UKREiiF, we didn't just showcase our technology—we shared our vision for a future where every city decision is backed by precise, location-based insights. 🔍 At Coplug, we believe that the path to thriving cities lies in understanding their pulse at a granular level. Our software — SIDM systems — doesn't just map locations; it uncovers the stories they tell about community needs, economic potential, and quality of life. 🤝 We were encouraged by the interest shown by NHS England toward our work with ICS in supporting them to better plan healthcare estates. From councils reimagining town centers to investors and developers seeking the best location for affordable housing, care homes and EV charging points, everyone we spoke to was keen to try out SIDM Systems. Together, we're not just planning cities — we're cultivating urban ecosystems. 🏡🌳🏬 #UKREiiF #UrbanDataRevolution #PlanTech #CityInnovation #LocationAnalytics
