Between the Russian missile strike on a children’s hospital in Kyiv and the NATO Summit kicking off today there is, unfortunately, plenty to discuss. Here is Control Risks’ latest Ukraine-Russia war bi-weekly update (also check Bota I.' interview with CNBC today): -         Frontlines - The delivery of Western ammunition has helped Ukraine reduce the gap in shells supply with Russia, both in terms of quantity (from a 7-to-1 ratio to approximately 4-to-1) and quality, with a higher factor of effectiveness. Nevertheless, the focus remains on the Donetsk region and the town of Chasiv Yar, where Russia is concentrating its offensive operations, facing extremely high costs. Russian troops approaching highway T0504, an important Ukrainian supply line that connects Chasiv Yar to Pokrovsk, may prompt a reconfiguration of Ukraine’s defensive operations in the area. -         Airstrikes - Russia’s missile strikes on 8 July grabbed headlines due to the targets being a children’s hospital and a maternity ward in the capital Kyiv. Strikes, whether with missiles, drones or glide bombs, occur daily against civilian infrastructure. The recent evolution in timing and targeting of these attacks, particularly against power generation facilities, will prompt increasing – albeit late – bilateral air defence support commitments from Ukraine’s Western allies. -         Diplomacy - The first day of the NATO Summit is taking place today in Washington, D.C. Member states are discussing a EUR 40 bn military assistance fund for Ukraine in 2025, which provides reassurance for Ukraine but will likely only be sufficient to support defensive operations. Today, eDiscovery isn't just a technical process—it's a strategic powerhouse that can minimise risks and significantly influence an organisation’s legal outcomes, costs, and overall operational efficiency. Yet, many organisations still defer to outside counsel, leveraging eDiscovery on a matter-by-matter basis. This approach misses out on unlocking a wealth of benefits that extend beyond just advantageous pricing for collecting, processing, and hosting data. Read our latest article, "Unlock Value Through a Managed eDiscovery Services Program" where experts Brad Kolacinski and Maggie Burtoft explore how organisations can really take advantage of the untapped data that lies within their reach > https://ow.ly/5Xjl50SxG7Y #eDiscovery #LegalTech #OperationalEfficiency #LegalOutcomes #ManagedServices #compliance #legal

It’s election day in the UK on 4 July. But, what happens next and what should you be watching out for? Here’s my guide.   Polling stations will close at 10pm and almost immediately we should have the exit polls forecasting the result. In the past two elections, the exit polls called the overall result correctly, but in 2015 it got it wrong. This time round, a Labour victory is all but certain. The thing to watch for is how big their majority is going to be and the make-up of the opposition.   First seats will declare soon after midnight and should give a first idea of the potential scale of the Conservative loss, but the real action will be between 2am and 5am. By the time most of the UK wakes up on Friday, the result should be clear.   The handover of power in the UK is swift, with removal vans arriving in Downing Street on Friday and the new government in office before the weekend.   The first few days will set the tone for the new government. Labour have already indicated that they will overturn the policy of sending migrants to Rwanda, reverse the de facto ban on onshore wind projects and swiftly publish a new planning policy. Meanwhile, Keir Starmer will begin to position himself on the international stage, heading to the NATO summit. But the window to seize initiative will be short before parliament begins its summer break later in July.   I’ll be back with another update after the election. In the meantime, if you are interested in a Control Risks senior leadership team briefing, please get in touch. Control Risks #UKElections #Elections #Labour #Geopolitics

Control Risks had the pleasure of participating in the in-person event organized by the Energy Committee of the Câmara Britânica de Comércio e Indústria no Brasil - Britcham at the Rio de Janeiro office of Machado, Meyer, Sendacz e Opice Advogados. The event focused on renewable energy and the identification and mitigation of risks throughout the project lifecycle.
