The Conrad Energy Community Fund team has received a fabulous update from the Wombwell Town U14 Girls. They are a volunteer-led, grassroots football team.    One of our grants funded new kit for the girls. Gav, their manager, said it provides “a sense of pride and belonging to the players, as they had outgrown their existing kit.” It also makes them “feel valued and part of the wider club, as the new kit matches the club’s adult first team now.”   It also means that the club can use other funds raised locally to allow the girls to play competitive football within the Sheffield & Hallamshire Women & Girls League.     Gav also gave us the good news that the girls had won their first match - “the first time we have ever won our opening day fixture, so really positive so far.”    It’s the taking part that counts, and our clothes do not define us, but we were thrilled to hear that the girls had such a great season opener in their new kit. We’re all set up for Solar & Storage Live, which opens tomorrow at 9am. Stand D36 is in the middle of Hall 20 and we’re looking forward to meeting show attendees in the morning. In his speech at this week’s Energy UK conference, Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, emphasised the urgency of transitioning to clean energy. He called it key to addressing Britain’s energy security, affordability, and sustainability challenges. He highlighted the collapse of the old energy trilemma, which relied on fossil fuels for security and affordability, arguing that recent crises have proven this unsustainable.   Miliband stressed that clean energy from renewables and nuclear offers price stability and energy independence that fossil fuels cannot. He outlined a strategic vision for the government, emphasizing the vast job creation and growth potential from clean energy investments. By accelerating the shift to renewables, the UK can reduce vulnerability to global energy price shocks while advancing toward net zero.   He concluded by calling for a collaborative effort between government and business to build a clean energy future, promising support for local communities and industries as they transition.
