Our latest #RoadFuel monitoring report has found drivers are still paying too much for fuel. Last year, our market study revealed that the fuel market was failing consumers and as a result we published proposals to help revitalise competition amongst retailers. In the interim we’ve been monitoring the market, and a year on, our monitoring report reveals that: - increases in retail fuel margins cost drivers over £1.6bn in 2023 - competition among fuel retailers continues to fail consumers That’s why we want to work with government to put in place our recommendation of a real-time fuel finder scheme to kick-start competition. We’ve also updated on several of our investigations into the groceries sector. Link in the comments ⬇️

Following our action, #Wowcher will change the way it promotes products and services to customers to address concerns it may be misleading or unfairly pressuring them into making quick purchases. We launched an investigation last year over concerns that Wowcher’s countdown timers and marketing claims could pressure shoppers to buy quickly for fear they’ll ‘miss out’, potentially spending more than they planned. We were concerned that the overwhelming majority of products continued to be available once the daily countdown timer had ‘ended’. In November 2023, we wrote to Wowcher setting out our concerns and calling on the firm to change its practices – or else risk possible court action. As a result, Wowcher has signed formal commitments, known as ‘undertakings’, meaning it will: ➡ only use clear and accurate countdown timers ➡ make sure scarcity and popularity claims are clear and accurate ➡ refund membership fees to customers who were signed up to a VIP membership via a pre-ticked box Read more: https://lnkd.in/eiTzGs94 #ConsumerProtection #OnlineShopping
