Every 40 seconds, someone dies from suicide; tens of millions more live with mental health conditions for which there is no good standard of care. Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) is one of these conditions. A lesser-known subset of major depressive disorder, TRD is believed to affect more than 100 million people around the world*. People living with TRD have tried at least two different treatments within a depressive episode without success, with the chance of response decreasing with every subsequent treatment. More needs to be done to change this. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we hear real stories from people living with TRD. *Reference: McIntyre RS, et al. We're proud to be a StigmaFree Workplace.
Personal mental health can sometimes take a backseat at work, but it’s time for us to come together to prioritize it. That’s why NAMI’s theme this #MentalIllnessAwarenessWeek and #WorldMentalHealthDay is My Mental Health at Work! Discover how we can work together to foster #NAMIStigmaFree workplaces by visiting nami.org/MIAW.

Compass Pathways reposted this
This week I was pleased to participate in a session on Neuroscience-based Nomenclature at the 37th ECNP Congress in Milan. Together with leading researchers in the field, we discussed the naming conventions behind psychotropic drugs, including the classification of serotonergic agonists, “psychedelics”, as they become increasingly important in psychiatry. I’d also like to congratulate two of Compass’s research scientists, Nilay Hewitt and Ania Nowakowska, on their poster presentations at the congress.

Thank you to Dr Bernardo Ng for being a guest speaker at Compass and delivering a fascinating talk about mental health in honour of Hispanic Heritage Month. Yesterday, Dr Ng discussed history, demographics, health inequities, and the importance of allyship, as well as his own experiences of working as a psychiatrist.
