As part of our “Shared Transport for All” project funded by Paths for All and the Smarter Choices, Smarter Places fund, CoMoUK staff are attending a range of community events. The Clyde Cycle Park’s Open Day in Glasgow was a great opportunity to promote shared transport to local residents. Throughout the day, they spoke to attendees about options in their area and provided tutorials on how to use the nextbike and Co-Wheels apps to find and book a bike or car. Many people had noticed the bike sharing scheme and are now encouraged to try it. Others were considering replacing private cars for car-sharing. We are excited to attend more events across the City and introduce more residents to shared transport. https://lnkd.in/gn-XgVcR

CoMoUK is the national charity dedicated to the social, economic and environmental benefits of shared transport.
About us
CoMoUK is the national organisation for shared transport, a charity for promoting its social, economic and environmental benefits. Shared transport means schemes such as car clubs and bike share where people can use a mode of transport without having to own it. We work collaboratively with national, regional, transport and local authorities as well as the private sector to further these public benefits. We do this via research, operator accreditation, stakeholder engagement, policy work and advocacy.

Very glad that CoMoUK is part of this ground-breaking work into what DRT (on demand minibus services of various precise formats) can do on these important agenda points. Transport is so often viewed as an end in itself, which of course it is not.
Our DRT project is one of 17 new projects that UKRI announced today as part of £9.7M funding to evaluate evidence on ways of reducing regional economic, health and social disparities. On-demand bus services (DRT) are being piloted in low-density areas not served well by conventional buses. Our project will assess their role in unlocking educational, employment, social and other opportunities for residents. University of the West of England and University of Leeds are working with Essex County Council, Gloucestershire County Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, CoMoUK and Transport East. This project complements University of the West of England's ongoing evaluation of the Rural Mobility Fund for the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom. The CoMoUK staff away day last week in York saw our small yet beautifully effective team get together for some well-earned social time. Before that, we were really pleased to be able to do a guided walk with RNIB's Terri Balon and colleagues. This was revelatory for us all and comes highly recommended. We will be taking the insights it gave us into work, including the two projects on shared transport and disabled people we have underway.

'Giving e-scooters and other similar vehicles legal status is a common sense move that would bring the UK into line with most other European countries and give people a flexible and green way to get around', says Richard Dilks, chief executive of CoMoUK. 'It is disappointing that after its comprehensive victory at the election earlier this month, Labour has not seized the chance to be as bold as it could have been in the King’s Speech' https://lnkd.in/eu7Dg74k

CoMoUK project manager, Robin T., spoke yesterday at the Landor LINKS Ltd Mobility Hubs conference in Birmingham on the theme of ‘Where are mobility hubs heading?’ including experience from CoMoUK’s pop-up mobility hub project in Scotland. There were many engaging contributions from speakers and attendees throughout the day, including discussions on how to adopt a ‘vision and validate’ approach to delivering mobility hubs, as transport professionals increasingly question the ‘predict and provide’ model that has contributed to traffic-dominated towns, cities and rural areas. Such a change in approach to transport planning will help the UK’s journey to net zero, with the new UK government inheriting the crucial task of setting a revised carbon budget delivery plan by May 2025. There were also some exciting updates at the conference from Transport for West Midlands and West of England Combined Authority on their pilot mobility hubs, which are currently under construction (or soon to be). See the slides from CoMoUK's presentation below (modified for LinkedIn):

On #GeneralElection day, here is what we as the national charity for the public benefits of shared transport want the next Government to focus on: https://lnkd.in/gx9C3Up5. Most urgent: the urgent need for primary legislation to legalise e-scooters (more on that here https://lnkd.in/e4VUH-vk) and help to resolve the crisis in small car club insurance. Beyond those, vital opportunities are waiting across transport, tax and spatial planning policy to get even more low cost, low carbon shared transport use.

🎥 Back in March we spoke to Paths for All, who fund our pop-up mobility hubs project. Their video showcases the benefits of our hubs to walkers, wheelers and cyclists, whether to hire an e-bike, to pump up your tyres or as a place to rest. It also highlights the key role the community has played in making this project a success, from helping us advertise the hubs to providing edible plants for our planters. 🍿 Watch the video below! In Inverness, this project was delivered in partnership with HITRANS and supported by Paths for All's Smarter Choices, Smarter Places initiative, a grant fund of Transport Scotland. 👉 View the video on Paths for All’s website: https://lnkd.in/er8zJmuM 👉 Read more about the pop-up mobility hub project: https://lnkd.in/e9jexq4W
