We are pleased to announce that we have successfully passed the recent audit for the renewal of our ISO 50001 certification, the standard for Energy Management! Initially obtained in 2021, ahead of launching the Shotton sustainability commitment, our site was the first within Tata Steel UK to achieve ISO 50001 certification. This accomplishment highlights one of Shotton’s key sustainability pillars: reducing the carbon footprint of the site and is a testament to our ongoing focus and ambition in this area. ISO 50001 was developed to recognise organisations committed to minimising their environmental impact and conserving resources through efficient energy management. For more information or a copy of the certificate please contact us on [email protected] #energyefficiency #carbonfootprint #sustainability #sustainabilitycommitment

Last Friday marked #worldcleanupday, and as part of our Shotton sustainability commitment, we highlighted material efficiency and onsite waste reduction as one of our core themes. To mark this important date, our teams participated in a litter pick around the Shotton site, just before heading into the winter months. It was a great opportunity organised by our Environment department for the teams to collaborate on an activity that makes a positive impact on the environment! #sustainabilitycommitment #sustainability #Shotton

One of our most prestigious projects is the GLP Distribution Centre in Venray, Netherlands. This stunning project features the iconic GLP design, showcasing a graduated colour palette of Colorcoat Prisma® supplied by FALK Bouwsystemen, blending shades seamlessly across the skyline. The carefully selected colours—Blue White, Baltic Blue, Chalk Blue, Bluebell, and Lilac—were supplied as 3 layer Colorcoat Prisma® with a clear coat layer, ensuring outstanding colour and gloss retention to the highest European standard EN 10169:2022 Ruv5. The product also boasts RC5 certification for exceptional corrosion resistance. The distribution centre achieved BREEAM Excellent certification, further demonstrating its sustainability credentials. A circular construction method was also employed, featuring CradleCore® sandwich panels from FALK with a take-back guarantee to reduce environmental impact. #builttolast #aesthetics #buildingenvelope #sustainability

We are proud to report that a total of 101 tern chicks were successfully fledged at our Shotton site this year! The first safe nesting area for Common Terns was established in 1970 through an initiative in collaboration with the Merseyside Ringing Group (MRG). This project aimed to transform the site’s lagoons into secure nesting habitats for the Common Tern, a bird species with a UK Conservation Status of Amber. Over the past 50 years, the colony has flourished, becoming the largest Common Tern colony in Wales and one of the top five in the UK. Since the nesting areas were first created in the 1970s, we estimate that around 20,000 chicks have fledged from the site. These birds have been reported in 20 different countries, primarily along the coast of West Africa, with some even reaching as far south as South Africa. The project continues to be closely monitored in collaboration with the Merseyside Ringing Group (MRG). #biodiversity #terns #sustainabilitycommitment
