Fantastic to see The Port of Leith Distillery featured by both the The New York Times and CBS this week: A distillery that reaches for the sky! We are proud to have contributed to this innovative design, which has formed a symbiotic connection between architecture and the The Port of Leith Distillery brand. This project is not only a new landmark in Leith but also an exemplar of waterfront regeneration. Watch and read both articles below: https://lnkd.in/eCJAqB8N https://lnkd.in/eZNqUchq

Heading towards completion. Despite the wet summer! We are working with Wemyss Family Spirits as part of its multi-million-pound investment programme to increase the maturation capacity for Kingsbarns Distillery’s whisky. This expansion will allow the distillery to ramp up production. And gain better control over specialised maturation and bottling when it releases 10 and 12-year-old expressions over the coming years. You may recall the first structural steel frame members going up in May. It signified this project coming out of the ground. You can see the excellent progress made as we near the end. Not long now!

Blending history and sustainability. And transforming heritage! The Dalkeith Corn Exchange redevelopment saw us develop an A-listed heritage building into modern offices. While preserving its historic charm. We meticulously restored historic features, including the stonework and iconic roof, bringing this 4-storey structure back to life. But it wasn't just about preservation. Sustainability was a core focus. Underfloor heating powered by ground-source heat pumps, BREEAM 'Very Good' rating, and the addition of Solar PV on the roof ensured this project blended tradition and innovation. One of the biggest challenges? Seamlessly integrating modern M&E services within the new insulated structure while maintaining the building's character. The result? A functional, efficient, and historic building! And a respectful space that honours both the past and the future. Need help on your next heritage project? Talk to our team. 👋🏼

Project approaching completion! After a delay in getting the mains water connection approved, the seven affordable, energy-efficient homes in Kirknewton are nearing handover.  Horizon Housing Association Limited is preparing for the first residents to move in. The project, worth £1.7m, was funded by: -Rural Housing Scotland -Ecology Building Society -The Scottish Government -Kirknewton Community Development Trust -The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland In collaboration with Robertson Architecture and Design, we have transformed this corner of Kirknewton, next to Charles Jenks’ 'A Stone’s Progress' art installation. This initiative positively impacts the local community. And addresses the needs of those most in need. These energy-efficient bungalows, built to Passivhaus criteria, mean inhabitants benefit from low utility costs. It will also allow Kirknewton residents to downsize and remain where their social and support network is. Their previous residences can become available, allowing new families to upsize or move to the village for the first time. It all helps to keep Kirknewton vibrant. P.S. Flick to picture 7 to see how it started. 🙂

Construction ingenuity at its best. Malt House Apartments is a converted Edinburgh city centre council office. It's set over three levels in a Grade A-listed warehouse stone-faced building. We developed this into ten flats and a new office suite. But this project - like many - had its challenges. 1. Increasing the basement office head height We overcame this by lowering the floor level while supporting the three-storey cast-iron column and timber beam 'pinned' structure. 2. Forming a new main access walkway and stairs to the upper-level flats. Our solution was to demolish the central core of the building. 3. Space restrictions in central Edinburgh Space is always a hurdle when working in the capital. But the team expertly avoided parking tickets! 🙂 Despite the challenges, our team delivered an exceptional transformation, blending the building's historic charm with modern functionality. The result is a stunning space that enhances the living and working environment in the heart of Edinburgh. This project had some excellent creativity!

Spott the Difference! Little Spott Steading is a redevelopment of an East Lothian steading into thirteen homes, set in a semi-rural position overlooking the Firth of Forth, with views of Bass Rock. The project involved restoring sections of the stone steading while reconstructing areas beyond repair, utilising the original sandstone cut and dressed from the existing buildings. The exteriors of the dwellings are completed in traditional stone with pan tile roof finishes. Doors and windows are all traditional finished timber. Colorado’s local stone masons constructed the walls in natural stonework and incorporated hardwood floors into the interiors. We created an enviable combination of traditional craftsman-finished red sandstone homes with all the features of a high-specification modern home. The steading development includes state-of-the-art sound and lighting integrated into the dwellings' fabric. We have more units to build (and sell) here in the next year or so. Colorado has highly experienced tradespeople with a track record in delivering these high-end projects. Talk to us about your one!
