The response to our recent fundraising appeal for rogue cell research is truly remarkable. We’re so grateful that since last month, 1,763 wonderful supporters have generously donated. This week, the latest phenomenal fundraising figure tipped over £182,781.00! That's a staggering 73% of the total £250,000 required for this project in little more than six weeks. We’re so grateful that this research project is now getting off the ground – and far sooner than any of us hoped! But we still need to raise £67,219 to fund all three phases of this three-year project. If you haven’t had the chance to donate yet, there is still time. Any gift you can give, big or small, can fund this research into rogue cells and unlock vital answers* to help take us closer to a cure for coeliac disease. The UK’s national charity for people who need to live without gluten.
About us
For over 50 years, we have been the experts on coeliac disease and the gluten free diet. We are an independent charity helping people to live well, gluten free. We do this by providing our 65,000 plus members with trustworthy advice and support, funding critical research into coeliac disease, working with healthcare professionals to improve diagnosis and fighting for better availability of gluten free food. And we do it all so that one day, no one’s life will be limited by gluten. We have offices in England, Scotland and Wales. We are not Government funded and rely on our Members and the generosity of our fundraisers and supporters to continue our work. We want to see the needs of people with coeliac disease and DH recognised by everyone and met in their everyday lives. We do this by: - providing expert and independent information to help people manage their health and diet - campaigning on their behalf to improve access to fast diagnosis, good medical treatment and safe foods - in the home and out - researching new treatments and the possibilities of a cure. Coeliac UK staff work in diverse roles ranging from dietetic advice, campaigning to database management. To find out more about opportunities at the Charity please contact: [email protected] As the gluten free diet is the only medical treatment for people with coeliac disease, we are always keen to talk to companies who are interested in producing and selling gluten free food. If you would like to discuss ways in which we could work together or if you want to find out more, please contact our Commercial Team at [email protected] who will be pleased to help.

A huge congratulations to these four dedicated Coeliac UK supporters who in the past weekend, took on the London 10K dressed as Darth Vader and three Stormtroopers! They have already raised over £500 for Coeliac UK and we are immensely grateful for their efforts. Five years ago, this same team stormed the streets of London at the event. Returning this year armed with Super Soakers, they ran through the streets of London, bringing attention and helping raise awareness to the challenges faced by those with coeliac disease. Do you live in Leicester, Leicestershire, or Rutland? Have your say on the proposal to remove gluten free prescriptions in the area. The local NHS Integrated Care Board is considering stopping prescriptions for gluten free products, affecting 1,300 people in our community with coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis. This change would remove much needed support for those who need it most in the area . Coeliac UK strongly opposes this proposal and will fight to protect access to essential gluten free items. Your voice matters! If you live in Leicester, Leicestershire, or Rutland, share your thoughts through the consultation survey before Sunday 25 August 2024 at 11:59pm. https://lnkd.in/eG2wuBi5 You can read more about the impact of cost and availability of gluten free food on the community here - https://lnkd.in/eu736edR #GlutenFreePrescriptions #GlutenFreePrescription #GlutenFreeFood #GlutenFree #CoeliacUK #Leicester #Leicestershire #Rutland

Meet Hannah from Ipswich, sharing her family's journey with coeliac disease and the challenges of managing a gluten free diet during the cost of living crisis. Hannah’s daughter, Harper, was diagnosed with coeliac disease after her third birthday, leading to a complete dietary overhaul to ensure she stays in good health. “It’s been difficult, but we must cater for Harper’s health needs, no matter the cost,” says Hannah. The family faces daily challenges due to the high cost and limited availability of gluten free foods. To manage expenses, Hannah relies on online shopping to track purchases and check ingredients. However, she often finds herself visiting multiple shops to get what Harper needs. To avoid contamination, the entire family follows a gluten free diet, adding to their shopping costs. Hannah is passionate about Coeliac UK's campaign to make gluten free food more affordable and accessible. Great afternoon hosting Leicestershire’s Coeliac UK cafe meet up at The Courtyard in Ashby-de-La-zouch. Helping those with the disease combating loneliness by having conversations. I sometimes forget the importance of volunteering until days like today, a little girl joined our meet and lots of cake was had. Her eyes lit up and the mum was overjoyed as she’s never seen her so excited over goodies before. Lots of tea was had! Conversations included costs of being gluten free, places to go out to eat and diagnosis stories. Cannot wait until our next meet up! 🧡 Coeliac UK
