Eating disorders and disordered eating in Black men are a significant but often overlooked issue. There is limited research focusing on Black men and a lack of appropriate resources and education to help increase awareness of eating disorders and disordered eating within this population. Addressing this requires comprehensive efforts in research, healthcare training, community outreach, and policy changes to ensure equitable access to diagnosis, treatment, and support. Here at Club Majority, we are working towards addressing these issues to ensure adequate treatment for all underrepresented demographics in eating disorders and disordered eating care. If you need support regarding an eating disorder or disordered eating, then visit clubmajority.com. #eatingdisorders #clubmajority #blackmentalhealth

So great to see the #RCPsychIC having a couple of sessions on eating disorders. Great work, Lade Smith CBE, Subodh Dave, and the The Royal College of Psychiatrists conference team. One of the Day 2 sessions—chaired by our COO, Chukwuemeka Nwuba—was about food and body images issues in minoritised ethnic groups.

It is alarming the amount of mismanagement that people with eating disorders experience at the hand of healthcare professionals, including medical doctors. This is, in part, driven by systemic issues of insufficient teaching, which also includes a lack of teaching at medical schools in the UK and abroad. With ed/md 2024—the world's first eating disorders conference for medical students—we hope to address this information gap. At our inaugural conference last year, we had an incredible sold-out event with the amazing Megan Jayne Crabbe, Adam Kay, Marilyn Okoro and Natasha Devon MBE as invited guests, among many others. We had delegates from across the world, from various disciplines, in attendance. This inaugural conference could not have happened without your generosity and support. Due to the overwhelming enthusiasm, as well as the urgency of the issue, the Club Majority team has decided to come together and plan a 2024 conference. And, as with last year, it will be available to all healthcare professionals and students. This year's conference will take place on Saturday 19th October 2024 at the beautiful The Bridge – Health, Fitness & Wellbeing, in the heart of London. Excitingly, it will also be available to a global audience because it will be held not just in-person but virtually too. The focus of this year's conference will be the underrepresented and minoritised within eating disorders—voices that we are so proud to amplify at Club Majority. To make this conference happen, we are seeking your support in the form of sponsorship. There are sponsorship levels for everyone, and your donation will make this vital event come to life. Like last year, we plan to apply for continuing education credits for various professional boards which costs a great deal of money—so we need your help! We also want to acknowledge the cost-of-living crisis, and the challenges that this may present, and so this year we are able to take sponsorship payments in instalments, as needed. Please reach out if you have questions or would like to sponsor: [email protected].

ed/md is back for another year! Last year's ed/md conference was a roaring success! So many incredible special guests including Megan Jayne Crabbe, Natasha Devon MBE and Adam Kay. We also heard from the likes of Agnes Ayton, Dr Amit D Mistry, Paola Falcoski and Dr Natasha Binnie MBBS BSc AFHEA. People came from across the world, from various disciplines, in attendance. The inaugural conference could not have happened without your generosity and support! We are in need of financial sponsorship for this year’s conference. Our co-founder and COO, Chukwuemeka Nwuba, has been featured in the latest issue of The Lancet. The piece, written by Danielle Gash, highlights his new book, Eating Disorders Don't Discriminate, and the systemic change that is needed to address the inequities in eating disorders care. "Fundamentally, systems-level approaches are required, which take time, concerted effort, and advocacy. Eating Disorders Don’t Discriminate has and will continue to start conversations. This inspired book dismantles stereotypes and stigma, validates the vast range of experiences in eating disorders, and provides sound evidence to spur necessary improvements in training, representation, and awareness. Eating disorders are under-acknowledged yet on the increase in many settings, and appropriate recognition of the various barriers and challenges faced by patients will go a long way to positively change the landscape and outlook for those affected. Recognition, accurate diagnosis, and high-quality medical care are essential for treatment and validating for the patient, creating the opportunity for a personal decision to move towards recovery."
