The CLOCS Strategy, Standards and Governance Board (SSGB) is made up of representatives from CLOCS members covering all of our stakeholder groups and partners, ensuring a breadth of knowledge, expertise and experience to drive CLOCS forward. Membership is refreshed each year with the longest standing members stepping down and new members invited to take their places. We are now delighted to welcome four new members to the group – Geraint Davies from FORS - Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme, Jon Holder from Laing O'Rourke, Brian McBrearty from MCG Construction and Nigel Ponton from CEMEX UK – and look forward to working with them alongside the existing members to drive CLOCS forward through 2024 and beyond. We also pass on our thanks and appreciation to four members who will step down shortly after concluding their terms on the SSGB – Richard Banks from TfGM, Garry Lewis from GL Consulting, Nick Simmons from RoadPeace and current CLOCS Chair Gordon Sutherland FCILT from Thames Tideway. All have played a vital role in supporting the CLOCS team and the wider community during their term on the SSGB. With Gordon stepping down, we are delighted to confirm that Adrian Boughtflower FCILT, current Vice-Chair of the SSGB, has agreed to step up as Chair, and that Ruth Trant has agreed to step up as Vice-Chair. They both bring a huge amount of drive and passion for safer construction logistics and CLOCS.   If any members has any query about the SSGB or is interested in getting involved at our next refresh in 2025, please contact Andy Brooke Emily H. CLOCS is proud to announce its support for RoadPeace National Road Victim Month 2024 – an annual campaign highlighting the staggering number of people needlessly killed and injured in crashes on the UK’s roads. National Road Victim Month, which was established in 1998 by RoadPeace, the national charity for road crash victims, also recognises the work of the emergency services, who respond to road crashes every day, and highlights the mental and physical impact that road crashes have on them. Nick Simmons, CEO of RoadPeace and member of the CLOCS Strategy Standards and Governance Board, said: “A shocking five people are killed and 80 are seriously injured, on average, on the UK’s roads each day. These crashes are especially heartbreaking because most of them can be prevented.” CLOCS and RoadPeace recognise that every number is a real person with real injuries – traumatising the casualty, their family, the driver, and witnesses. Road collisions shatter lives and families, leaving behind a trail of devastation. For more than 30 years, RoadPeace has supported countless families through unimaginable trauma and grief following a road crash. They didn’t ever think that they would be a crash victim, but tragically, the reality is that it can happen to anyone. Is your organisation doing everything it can to remove or mitigate the risk to vulnerable road users from your construction activities?

“The training was wonderful and insightful, especially regarding the knowledge a Traffic Marshall should have. Ruth Trant's casual and engaging way of sharing the information was fantastic—I thoroughly enjoyed it. Nova Neverson, I Am Training Ltd. Great feedback from our Site Access Traffic Marshal Train the Trainer course last week where we equipped more people to deliver SATM training across their operations. Our one-day training teaches you to train your operatives through classroom-based exercises, group discussion and practical experience. This training helps ensure that your SATMs will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes, as well as the confidence to effectively implement CLOCS at the site gate. Our next training session runs on the 3rd October 2024 in London. We’re always keen to deliver this training away from London so if you are interested, please get in touch and we’ll do our best to come to you! Note that the CLOCS SATM training is only available to CLOCS members so if you are interested but not yet signed up, just get in touch and the team will talk you through the process. Programme Director for CLOCS

Great to attend the latest CLOCS Site Access Traffic Marshall delivered this week on an ISG project in London. Delivered by Ruth Trant who brings knowledge, expertise, passion and humour to these sessions with a real focus on what is needed to make sure those who control site access and egress are properly equipped to ensure safety is at the forefront at all times. With real life examples, practical exercises and much group discussion, it really was a first class training session. We now have even more people equipped to deliver this training within their own operations, and with nearly 4000 SATMs now trained to the CLOCS SATM standards, it's clear to see this is fast becoming the industry standard for ensuring projects have competent SATMs at all times. Thanks to Nova Neverson Messiah Farman Shaun Lewis Lawrence Tate Tom Welch Frankie Swain for being great delegates, Ruth Trant for the excellent training, the ISG team who were amazing hosts and PHD Access who kindly provided the vehicle so that everyone could get their first practical experience of manoeuvring a construction vehcile. If you have resposbibility for SATMs on your project and are not yet using the CLOCS training, get in touch to discuss.
