The UK's aviation and aerospace regulator

About us

We are the UK’s aviation and aerospace regulator. We strive to ensure the aviation industry meets the highest safety standards in order to protect air passengers and the general public. We also run the ATOL scheme, which ensures that consumers are protected financially should they become stranded abroad. But our work doesn’t stop there. Aviation is an exciting and rapidly expanding field, and we are proud to be at the forefront. Our work sees us developing regulations for the most current aviation technology, and ensuring that environmental standards are effectively managed. You could help us to achieve our strategic objectives, and be a part of something great. Providing our people with talent and development opportunities is a fundamental part of our strategy. We have an approach to performance and development that supports accountability, wellbeing, and puts you in the driving seat. It encourages open dialogue between you and your manager with regular conversations to help shape your aspirations, share feedback, manage your progression and build your personal development plan. Our wide range of courses and resources are open to all to support you in your current role and help you get ready for a great future. We also encourage secondments, project-based work and 'on the job' learning as part of our blended learning approach. For the first time since 2020, no UK airport received a ‘poor’ rating for their accessibility performance over the last year. Between April 2023 and March 2024, our Airport accessibility report rated 11 airports as ‘very good’, but there is mixed progress. As the demand for assistance services increases, 12 airports were rated ‘good’, and only five airports were rated as ‘needs improvement’. Today, we're also announcing our new Airline Accessibility Performance Framework, setting out a key set of standards for airlines on how we expect them to treat all passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility. We’ve announced new trials to help unlock drone operations in the UK. Six projects have been chosen under a new scheme that'll help safely integrate drones flying beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) into UK airspace, with the trials gathering key safety data, supporting the ongoing development of policy and regulations. Our Director of the Future of Flight Challenge, Sophie O'Sullivan said “These innovative trials mark a significant step forward in integrating drones safely into UK airspace. "By supporting projects ranging from consumer deliveries to critical infrastructure inspections, we are gathering essential data to shape future policies and regulations. “Our goal is to make drone operations beyond visual line of sight a safe and everyday reality, contributing to the modernisation of UK airspace and the incorporation of new technology into our skies.” More information 👉 https://lnkd.in/eY-JmaZY

Earlier this year, we asked for your views on the challenges facing light aircraft pilots in obtaining an active carbon monoxide (CO) detector🛩 Our consultation discussed the importance of protecting passengers from CO, the role that maintenance plays in combatting it, and whether the detectors should be mandatory for some operations. Our response document summarises the responses received, sets out the decisions taken and the next steps. 👉 https://lnkd.in/e732yh76 #aviation
