Great to see coverage in Bloomberg that Ciner Glass has worked with banks, including BNP Paribas SA for a loan to help finance the construction of its €700 million ($753 million) glass bottle plant in Belgium. On Sunday, April 14, Lommel was overwhelmed with a wave of enthusiasm and athleticism to celebrate the seventh year of the Sahara City Run. As a proud sponsor of this event, Ciner Glass ran side by side with over 1,000 participants who took on the challenge of conquering the Lommel Sahara. As construction on the multi-million-pound glass plant in Lommel continues, Ciner Glass has been working to engage with the local community, attending and hosting events to form relationships with local businesses and suppliers. Engaging in local sporting initiatives such as the Sahara City Run is a way for the company to show its desire to contribute to the growth and development of the community. We aim to increase the percentage of recycled glass year after year. By using sustainable building materials, local suppliers, and maximizing recycled glass, we can drastically reduce emissions and prevent glass bottles from ending up in landfills. A thought-provoking piece in Glass Magazine looks at the role that Artificial Intelligence could play in helping to benefit production processes in two key ways for the glass industry. The first looks at Auto-replacing purchase orders for stock replenishment. In this potential use case, AI takes over the critical task of stock management. By automating purchase orders, the system ensures that stock levels are maintained efficiently, without the need for manual intervention. Another key area where AI is set to make a significant impact is in monitoring and optimizing the throughput of each machine and workstation in the glass manufacturing process. The AI system learns from operational behaviour and adapts to the complexities of the manufacturing process. It can predict bottlenecks, suggest optimal workflows, and ensure that each component of the manufacturing line is operating at peak efficiency. Read more at: https://lnkd.in/ex_RXJUx

Really interesting article in the BBC News that looks at some of the work being done across the glass industry to help reduce the emissions in glass production: https://lnkd.in/euDhhGTN At Ciner Glass, and our new factory in Lommel , we aim to use 75% recycled glass. Glass can be recycled indefinitely and is environmentally friendly. It can reduce energy consumption by at least 20%, because recycled glass melts at a lower temperature. In addition, the company innovates by reducing the weight of its glass bottles by 10%, resulting in a significant decrease in resource use and CO2 emissions during their transport. This weight reduction, combined with local production, will result in an annual CO2 reduction of nearly 29,000 tonnes, significantly shrinking both our environmental footprint and that of our customers.
