Congratulations to SAGA ROBOTICS // THORVALD! Saga’s #Thorvald robots are now operating at nine strawberry growers across the UK, servicing four times the area covered in the 2023 season. Their modular robotic platform utilises UV light treatment to replace harmful chemical fungicides. “Saga Robotics' Thorvald platform is transforming the UK strawberry farming landscape. Now treating nearly one in ten berries, Thorvald achieves a remarkable 60-90% reduction in pesticide usage and delivers a 40% return on investment for customers. Join Alastair in the Seminar Tent at 12:00pm on Wednesday 26th June, where he will be on a panel discussing “Embedding Regen Principals into Global Supply Chains: How Can it be Done”. He will be joined on stage by Tom Gee Dorothy Shaver, Emmanuelle Hopkinson and Elizabeth Stockdale. More on the panel: “A systematic shift to regenerative agriculture requires participation across the whole supply chain, from farmers, agronomists, policy-makers and manufacturers, through to retailers and consumers. How can a consumer goods multi-national re-engineer its supply chain and embed regenerative agriculture principles within it? Unilever has nine regenerative agriculture projects globally, across 48,000 hectares. With plans to expand further, the company has recently launched its first regenerative agriculture project in the UK, working with farms that grow the mustard seeds and mint leaves used in Colman’s products. Earlier this year the Cibus Team ventured to #TheGreatReserve in Abergavenny, Wales, to plant Sequoia trees on behalf of the Cibus Foundation. The Cibus Foundation is an impact-driven foundation focused on making positive change across ecosystems within agriculture, aquaculture and land-management. The Great Reserve currently has three planting sites across the UK. The Abergavenny site is a previously felled coniferous commercial woodland, that is being replanted with a mix of Sequoias, nurse crop conifers and native broadleaves. This combination has been thoughtfully put together with local fauna, biodiversity and monoculture avoidance at front of mind. A Sequoia Grove can capture as much as 10x more CO2 per acre than a natural UK woodland over the period of 100 years, increasing over time, and a single Giant Sequoia tree has the potential to sequester as much CO2 as the lifetime footprint of your average UK citizen!
