Roll up, roll up! 🎪 We appreciate that it can be difficult to keep children entertained in the summer holidays, with some activities costing much more than some families can afford. This is why we made the most of the sun recently and held a community fun day in Melbourne, Chelmsford. This was a free event where local families could come along and get stuck in and take home some fun prizes from different games, such as the tin-can alley and hook a duck. We also had other activities that kept our customers entertained including face painting and a stall where kids could plant their own herbs to take home. The day was organised by Keira Hill, our Customer Service Apprentice, and was run by a group of colleagues who volunteered time out of their day, and we think that they all did a great job, thank you to Keira and everyone else involved. 👏 We’d also like to thank Switchee, Action For Family Carers, and Essex Community First Aid Events Volunteers for their support on the day where they also had their own information stands and answered any questions our customers might have had.

We’re over the moon to share that we’ve been shortlisted four times in the Essex Housing Awards. We’re honoured to be recognised for our hard work as a housing organisation in Essex and that our colleagues have been noticed for their fantastic contributions. We've been shortlisted in the Meeting Housing Need category which looks at how organisations are doing the most to devise imaginative solutions to meet Essex’s diverse housing needs. All of our colleagues have helped us to be recognised for this role by constantly helping us to make great new homes and transform lives. Brierley Paddocks, our first development on Mersea Island, has been shortlisted for the Medium Housing Schemes award, which recognises the development of homes which make a significant contribution to meeting housing need and delight residents and the local community. One of our colleagues have been shortlisted for Housing & Development Professional of the Year, and another is a finalist in the Mo Slade Rising Star Award. A huge congratulations to Vikki Barnes and Rosie who both constantly work hard and showcase all of CHP’s values every day. Thank you to the judges for the recognition. We’re proud to have been considered alongside some of the very best of housing in Essex, and good luck to the other finalists.

Meet our clean, green, eco-friendly, grass-cutting machine. While our mission is to transform lives and create great new homes, we also want to be more sustainable and improve our environmental performance too. Our new, fully electric, stand-on lawnmower is just one way to help us achieve this as it produces zero emissions and can cut grass for up to seven hours on a single charge. The benefits of our new mower are more than just environmental ones. It’s far quieter than traditional mowers which means that it doesn’t disrupt customers and other local residents when we’re cutting grass close to people’s homes. It’s also much smaller than many other machines which helps our colleagues to access more areas, including through narrow gates, so that we can be more efficient in our work. One of the new mower’s most recent outings was at our latest customer event in Harwich where we helped residents by clearing waste and debris from their gardens, picked litter, and carried out grounds maintenance work to improve their estate making it cleaner and tidier. #CHP #HousingAssociation #Sustainability #SustainableHousing #EcofriendlyHousing

Last week we visited some of our customers in Harwich as part of our Connecting CHP (Community, Homes and People) initiative. We helped our customers by disposing of large household items from their homes and cleared waste and debris from their gardens. We also picked litter and carried out additional grounds maintenance work which all helped to improve the area by making it much cleaner and tidier. Our customers made good use of our skip on the day as it was quickly full of unwanted furniture, rubbish and more. We were really pleased with the number of customers that came out to see us, including a young daughter of a customer asking if she could join in with our litter picking. We were also able to look at minor repairs and discuss any concerns that our customers had, signposting them for further support where needed. This was one of our most successful Connecting CHP events and we received some lovely feedback from our customers, including one who told us: “I think CHP did a fantastic job in helping to keep our little estate looking great and it makes you feel happy that people within the company care about those who live here”. A huge thank you to our enthusiastic group of Team CHP colleagues who volunteered to take part on what turned out to be one of the hottest days and thanks to our customers who gave us a very warm welcome.

As we welcome a new Labour government into Parliament, we hope to see a long-term, stable housing policy that will tackle the housing crisis. As a local housing provider, we appreciate their pledged support so that housing associations like CHP can build more homes that are so desperately needed. We’re looking forward to working with our newly elected local MPs, whatever their political party, to solve the housing crisis and support local people.

As the general election draws closer, we’re pleased to see housing on the agenda as a matter of importance to all parties. As a local housing provider, we recognise the escalating housing crisis, and encourage the next parliament to support the provision of more safe, well-made social and affordable housing. A huge thank you to our friends at Aaron Services Limited, Edmundson Electrical Ltd and Screw Centre Limited for not only taking part in our friendly football tournament yesterday afternoon but also sponsoring it too. We're pleased that the sun finally came out after dodging the downpours all day. We want to say thank you and well done to our Giving Something Back group and in particular Mikaela Moughton who organised yesterday's event. All money made will help raise funds for local charities Lennox Children's Cancer Fund and Florentina's Footsteps. Congratulations to The Screw Centre team for taking home the trophy, hopefully Team CHP can be triumphant next year.

It’s coming home! ⚽ No, not the Euros, we’re talking about something far more serious... This afternoon some of our colleagues, along with employees from Aaron Services Limited, Edmundson Electrical Ltd and Screw Centre Limited who we work with regularly will be competing in a friendly football tournament to raise money for local charities Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund and Florentina's Footsteps. Lennox Children's Cancer Fund Fund is based in Basildon, supporting families through their child’s cancer journey, from diagnosis through to treatment and beyond. Florentina's Footsteps is helping to support a young girl from Braintree battling cancer to get the treatment she desperately needs. We’re really excited for some friendly competition, but most importantly to support families through the Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund and raise money for Florentina’s journey. You can find out more about Lennox Children's Cancer Fund here: https://lnkd.in/g9umRFT You can find out more about Florentina's appeal on her Facebook page here: https://lnkd.in/gPGGwueE

We had a great time at Housing 2024 this week. 🏆 We had four shortlisted entries in the Women in Housing, Housing Heroes, and Inside Housing’s 40 under 40. While we didn’t win, we’re over the moon that our colleagues and our organisation were shortlisted, recognising all the hard work that they do for us and our customers. We’re also really pleased that Rosie O’Neill, our Apprentice Wet Trades Painter, was highly commended for her work. A big well done to everyone else who was also shortlisted or won. 🌍 David George (AIEMA), our Sustainability and Asset Data Manager, was part of the panel on the Knowledge Stage alongside colleagues from Sero, SNG (formerly Sovereign Housing Association) and Pobl Group where they talked about all things retrofit. They shared real examples of how retrofit can be done (and there were no empty seats left in the audience!). Despite challenges within the sector, it was a pleasure to learn, discuss, and collaborate with friends and colleagues from all areas of the housing industry. There is some amazing work being done and we’re excited to come back next year and see the progress that’s been made. #Housing2024 #HousingWeek #CHP #HousingConference #SocialHousing
