ChargeUK, has today released “Powering Ahead to 2030” – a new White Paper on the state of the EV charging network. Working with independent transport research organisation New AutoMotive, the findings take a fresh look at charge point provision throughout the UK, to understand the true picture and how it will develop through to 2030. The analysis found: 🚗 A new public charge point is being installed every 25 minutes 🔌 There are nearly a million home, work and public charge points in the UK today, almost one for every fully electric vehicle (EV) ⚡ Current infrastructure can provide enough power to enable every EV in the UK to drive 580 miles a day- 25 times the average daily car journey and further than the distance between London to Aberdeen 🔌 If current growth continues, the rollout of public chargers will track ahead of EV adoption and there will be over 300,000 public charge points in the UK by 2030 🚗 To enable the charging sector to stay on track for 2030, the new Government must take steps to remove grid, planning and permitting barriers; make owning and charging an EV easy and affordable; and clarify and speed up existing public subsidy schemes. Vicky Read, CEO of ChargeUK has welcomed the Scottish Government announcement of the first awards from its Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund. She said, “ChargeUK’s members stand ready to deliver the Scottish Government’s vision of a just transition to electric vehicles, through investment in charging infrastructure at pace and scale. The first Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund awards are an important and welcome step in delivering the vision. “Our members will invest over £6 billion in rolling out EV infrastructure before 2030 to provide affordable and convenient charging for all in every part of the UK. “Key to achieving that aim is effective partnership with the UK’s governments and local authorities. “This first tranche of funding is encouraging and we look forward to unlocking further support through this scheme to ensure Scots motorists are confident that EV charging infrastructure is not just there for them today but into the future too.”
Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop announces over £7 million to support #ElectricVehicle infrastructure in the north of Scotland and Dundee. This investment from The Scottish Government is the first to be awarded from the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund. Significant private investment will be required to grow the network and pace and scale. The funding is targeted in a way which draws in private sector investment and with a particular focus on more rural areas, which is reflected in the financial awards. BVRLA’s latest Road to Zero report is out today and paints a positive picture for ‘public charging availability and reliability’. The findings note that public charge point numbers are continuing to increase, with the sector on track to reach 300,000 charge points by 2030, if today’s growth continues. Speaking at the BVRLA’s Fleets in Charge conference, ChargeUK’s CEO Vicky Read welcomed the report. Vicky also called on the new Government to help the sector continue this growth by removing delivery barriers, such as grid and planning, and speeding up and clarifying public funding. Thanks the other panellists, Mike Hawes of SMMT, Gerry Keaney of the BVRLA and Edmund V King OBE of the AA, for their involvement in such timely discussion. #FleetsinCharge Please see the link to the full report below. https://lnkd.in/e5eRmjP4
