We are at a pivotal point in Scotland's climate journey. Legislation to revise Scotland's legal climate framework has now passed, and the Scottish elections are on the horizon. There can be no more delay in delivering robust and fair climate action across all parts of our society, bringing much-needed benefits to our health, economy, and planet. We’ve joined over 70 organisations and called on the First Minister to act and commit increased fair funding to: 🚏 Enable people to walk, wheel and cycle safely, and get about quickly and easily on an affordable and reliable public transport network; 🏠Power our homes through cleaner forms of heating and ensure they are properly insulated, protecting households from the risk of fuel poverty and improving health. 👩🌾 Support farmers, crofters and fisheries to manage our land and seas in ways that protect and restore nature and reduce emissions, cutting food waste and promoting healthy and sustainable diets; and ♻️ Help people develop the skills needed for a new low carbon, circular economy, and deploy fast, fair and managed plans to fully transition away from reliance on polluting fossil fuels Read our letter here: https://bit.ly/4fsPgEq

Our Head of Consultancy Ian Cochran has had his thoughts on the climate change policy the new UK Government should prioritise in its first six months published in a new book. This week we helped oversee the installation of a heat pump for one of our customers as part of the service we offer. Our Senior Retrofit Coordinator, Marc managed to get some pictures to share with you all. You can see in them that we are putting in underfloor insulation and underfloor heating which connects to the heat pump. This property also has more exciting measures to come such as internal wall insulation, new windows alongside a solar panel and battery storage system installed. We were delighted to host Gas Safe Charity at our Changeworks Edinburgh office this week for a workshop to raise awareness of carbon monoxide in the cost-of-living crisis. This session was organised by SGN who are a partner with us on several of our services to support householders with energy advice. The sessions varied from support for older people from Age Scotland to our own Lisa Bygate presenting on the work of our Affordable Warmth Service Team. SP Energy Networks also presented on how they're helping their vulnerable customers. Thank you to all who presented for sharing valuable knowledge and insights to keep householders affordably safe and warm in their homes.

We recently received an update from CARES Delivery Officer, Karen Delaney, about their work on the Isle of Muck. Muck is an off-grid island, meaning it has no connection to the national grid. Instead, they have their own renewable energy (with generator back up) and distribution system.  The island were awarded CARES Off Grid Funding to add more solar PV, replace transformers and generator, civils, electrical work and project management.  The project is due to finish up at the end of November – here’s some photos to show progress so far!  #IsleOfMuck #OffGrid #RenewableEnergy #EnergyEfficiency #Funding #Project

Last week, we held our second Changeworks Connects event which focussed on the Heat in Buildings Bill (HiBB). Gillian Campbell from Existing Homes Alliance Scotland , alongside Andrew Yuill  from Vattenfall and our colleagues Fabrice Leveque and Ian Cochran from Changeworks held a panel session to delve into the details of the HIBB proposals, set out the current state of play and expectations from the incoming legislation. The event was a success with lots of colleagues from across the sector joining the conversation. The HiBB urgently needs to be passed as it is key to meet Scotland’s net zero targets, it will set out laws for how we heat Scotland’s buildings, as well as how energy efficient the buildings need to be, thereby, providing certainty for homeowners and the retrofit sector.  Look out for updates about our upcoming Changeworks Connects Conference soon too.  #Event #HeatInBuildings #Decarbonisation #HeatNetworks #LowCarbonSolutions #RenewableTechnologies #NetZero
