🌍 SBTi’s New Update on Carbon Removals – A Positive Step Forward! The recent update from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) signals a potential shift towards recognising carbon removals as a critical part of corporate net-zero strategies. While some of the communication remains ambiguous, this revision points to the increasing role carbon removals could play in helping companies meet their science-based climate goals. At CFP Energy, we believe every organisation should focus on reducing emissions as much as possible, while using carbon credits to compensate for hard-to-abate emissions and balance their carbon books, both today and in the future. Investing in nature and using carbon credits offer an essential tool for organisations to manage their climate responsibilities and compensate for their impact on the path to net zero. This update from SBTi is a step in the right direction, acknowledging the importance of carbon removals alongside emissions reductions, and we look forward to further clarity as the standard evolves. https://lnkd.in/eEXUcBxR

Last month, we shared an update on CORSIA, a regulation covering the aviation industry and the carbon emissions it creates. Compliance is mandatory for all airline operators for flights carried out between the 126 signatory states and there are increasing demands for carbon reductions in the future as part of the same legislation. A recent Carbon Pulse article reported that voluntary carbon projects are becoming increasingly beneficial for biodiversity. Since 2018, most new projects have earned a score of 4 (or higher) out of 5 on biodiversity ratings from AlliedOffsets, with all 2024 projects achieving this high standard. This improvement is not only driven by better project designs but also by growing demand. Many companies are now prioritising carbon credits that also enhance biodiversity, reflecting a broader shift towards more holistic sustainability practices. At CFP Energy, our commitment to biodiversity is integral to our nature-based projects, which go beyond emissions reduction— we implement comprehensive biodiversity monitoring plans and partner with academic researchers to maximise and ensure net positive conservation outcomes.
