FUTURE LEADERS IMMERSED IN DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY SERVICES Last week we had the pleasure of hosting yet another Future Leaders UK session in our London office for 25 extremely engaged, enthusiastic and brilliant young people. The session opened with a welcome from our CIO Rahul Malik, who introduced the landscape of Centrica Energy's DTS (digital technology services), his career and imposter syndrome throughout that journey. Moving on to the next session, Sophie McHard and Emma Silver took them through a session on Imposter Syndrome where the students got a deep dive into the concept, as well as an energetic game of charades, centred around the 5 Faces of imposter syndrome and the tools to combat it in day to day life. Next up, we had Ravindra, Sampreet, Emma and Zara as part of an Empowerment panel, where they discussed their career journeys and how imposter syndrome has impacted them whilst on that journey. Closing up, Dario and Piyush immersed the students into DTS with a simulation game, helping them deepen their understanding of DTS and what a typical project could look like, supporting the students to clearly visualise the work they could be doing if they pursued a career in DTS. Thank you yet again for this meaningful collaboration, Future Leaders UK and Faheem Khan! #EnergyMoversByNature #MakeYourMove #FutureLeadersUK

TRADING SIMULATION GAME WITH Aalborg University Business School. Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a trading simulation game for over 40 students enrolled in the 'Commodity Economics' and 'Financial Trading Challenge' semester courses at Aalborg University. As proud contributors to the Commodity Economics course, we held our traditional trading simulation game at our Aalborg office, giving students a feel for how energy trading works and a chance to put their theoretical coursework into practice. It was an opportunity for the students to put their critical thinking and analytical skills to the test, navigating the intricacies of real derivatives trading. This is how we did it: - For two hours, each student was armed with a virtual risk capital of EUR 5 Million in monopoly money to build and place trades on power, gas, EUA and Spark Spreads. - We provided all participants with a spreadsheet to record their trades, monitor their exposure, and track their available capital. - The students executed their trades by submitting their positions to our trusted "brokers", Adam Bourenane and Pavel Jelen, who ensured the legitimacy of each transaction.  - The students were updated with fictional geopolitical news and weather forecasts to consider when placing their trades – all provided by our "analysts" Finlay White and Ezio Lauro. - Transparency was key, as all pertinent information was openly shared among participants. - We will monitor these positions over the next week, and the winner will be the trader who achieves the best risk-adjusted returns (Sharpe Ratio) over this period. As a small surprise, our VP of Trading, Analytics & Algorithms Jesper Jung came by to meet the students and to put in his own position... Stay tuned for next week, where we'll unveil the winning student, during their company visit at Centrica Energy 🚀 #EnergyMoversByNature #CentricaEnergy

WE’VE BEEN AWARDED ONE OF THE BEST WORKPLACES IN EUROPE     We’re proud to mark yet another milestone in our workplace recognitions, as our Danish entity has been awarded as one of the Best Workplaces in Europe 2024 by Great Place to Work, securing our position on the Top-100 list for Best Small & Medium Workplaces in Europe.     Our Global People Director, Aki Danmark Palikaras elaborates on this achievement:    “This recognition is a testament to our people and how they power the unique and dynamic culture we have built at Centrica Energy. We’re an international business – with colleagues joining us from 50  different countries across the world – so this recognition is particularly important for a business like ours, and to me signifies that our initiatives to create an even more inclusive, diverse, and equal workplace are effective.”    Highlighted in what makes our organisation a great and special place to work are our social initiatives, covering Study Groups, volunteering, our active club “Moving Our ASSets” and our Centrica Women’s Network, which are all part of strengthening collaboration and overall business performance by driving a unique feeling of camaraderie and inclusion for all.    Since first being recognised as a Great Place to Work® in 2022, our workplace has achieved several awards, and most recently in 2024 we were awarded the Best Workplace for Gender Equality in Denmark and achieved a 3rd place position in the Top-25 list of Best Workplaces in Denmark for organisations with 50-499 employees.    Read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/dt7iRasF   #CentricaEnergy #EnergyMoversByNature

DISCUSSING A GREENER AND FAIRER FUTURE WITH THE CENTRICA BOARD This week, we had the immense pleasure of welcoming the Centrica Board to our Aalborg office. This was the Board’s first official meeting outside the UK, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to host them and witness their interest and support for Centrica Energy. Following the meeting, the Board extended their visit to spend time with the local colleagues and to gain deeper insights into our business. The Board reviewed and provided guidance on our business model and our plans for the future – and discussed how what we do at Centrica Energy is key to energising a greener, fairer future. Included in the agenda was our global ambitions, how we use AI and deploy best-in-class algorithmic trading, and how we continue to support the energy transition through optimisation of renewable energy, batteries, biomethane, and more. Further, we discussed how we continue to build a diversified portfolio of LNG agreements with flexibility and controlled risk to support global energy needs, whilst exploring opportunities in future markets for sustainable fuels. Finally, we covered how Centrica Energy will continue investing in its leading control and enabling function capabilities, to support our commercial ambitions. To wrap up the day, the Board invited all Aalborg-based colleagues to a Q&A session, where everyone had the opportunity to share their thoughts and ask questions to the most senior levels of leadership. We find ourselves energised from the productive discussions with the Centrica Board, and ready to deliver on our strategic vision. #CentricaEnergy #EnergyMoversByNature #EnergisingAGreenerFairerFuture

MEET OUR ENERGY MOVER, LAURIDS FRANK: DISCOVER THE ROLE OF A LEAD POWER TRADER Ever wondered what a Power Trader does and their role in moving energy to where it’s most needed? Laurids Frank is our Lead Trader in Intraday Power. As an Intraday trader, he trades the European wholesale power market on a 24/7-365 basis. It’s short-term and often traded within minutes of physical delivery and is based on solid analytics, market knowledge, and live changes in wind and weather. As our traders are always in the market, Laurids and the team work in shifts between Copenhagen and Singapore so there's always someone trading and watching the markets move. Asked about his role, Laurids said: “I’m what some would call a traditional trader, meaning that I, together with my team, analyse the market, develop trading strategies and execute on these to create value. Our job is always to be moving energy from where there's a surplus to where it’s most needed.” Being a Lead Trader, he also works closely with internal stakeholders from Trading Operations, and Algorithmic Trading, including trading analytics, trade support, and algo development. Here Laurids provides the teams with the inputs needed to create even more insightful analytics or develop new algorithmic models based on real market learnings. THE FUTURE OF MATHEMATICS-ECONOMICS AT AAU   Last week, we participated in the 15th anniversary celebration of Mathematics-Economics at Aalborg University, where alumni, students, and staff gathered to mark this significant milestone.   We're fortunate to have many talented Mathematics-Economics alumni, working across diverse roles such as Quantitative Analytics, Quant Trading, Structured Operations, and Trading Analysts - and even some first-generation alumni like Anca Pircalabu and Thomas Hvolby.   Anca shared her insights during the Alumni Stories panel, reflecting on her academic journey, her professional experiences, and the core memories from her time as a student. Meanwhile, Thomas Hvolby presented his take on the future of the program, drawing on his experience at Centrica Energy in Aalborg and London.   Engaging in initiatives like this allows us to support educational degrees that are critical to our pipeline of highly skilled professionals with a rich understanding of complex mathematical, statistical, and economic concepts. These are all vital to the work we do in quantitative analytics and trading, and part of shaping how we operate in these fields.   #Energymoversbynature #Centricaenergy

CENTRICA ENERGISES 100MW OF SWEDISH BATTERIES ⚡️🔋   Centrica has entered into an agreement to acquire up to nine ‘ready to build’ battery energy storage projects in Sweden with a total capacity of over 100MW from Fu-Gen , the Swiss based renewables developer and independent power producer.   Deployed in the SE3 region, which includes Stockholm and surrounding areas, the batteries will provide grid flexibility and ancillary services in these regions and across the wider Nordic electricity market.   Progress like this is what makes us proud to be part of the Centrica group, and we’re more than ready to deploy our multi-market optimisation capabilities to help ensure a smooth energy transition.   Commenting on the agreement, Ulrika Wising, Managing Director of Centrica Power said: "The acquisition strengthens our position as a leading provider of flexibility energy solutions across Europe. Battery storage is a key enabler for the transition to a low-carbon energy system, and we look forward to working with Fu-Gen to deliver these projects and to support the integration of more renewable energy in Sweden." CHARITY BOOTS PARTNERSHIP LAUNCH   We recently launched our newest partnership with Charity Boots - a UK based charity that collects old and pre-loved football boots to clean, refurbish, and donate them to less fortunate children across the world.   We've committed to putting our collective energy into this great cause through hands-on volunteering, events, and donations - whilst, of course, having some fun along the way.   To celebrate the launch of our partnership in the UK, we hosted a large get-together, where our colleagues shined up over 60 pairs of football boots - all generously donated by our colleagues to our charity bins in our offices in UK and Denmark. To top off the event we had Arsenal's Alexei Rojas raffle a pair of his goalie gloves and Columbian national team shirts - with every penny raised from the raffle went straight to Charity Boots.   Ahead of the launch, we also donated a refurbished van to Charity Boots, helping their mission to collect and distribute the football boots even more effectively, before they are shipped off to their new owners.   A massive kudos to all our brilliant colleagues who supported the kickstart of this rewarding partnership by donating, collecting, and refurbing pre-loved football boots!   With Charity Boots bins set up in our offices, we're excited to continue supporting their global mission of bringing joy to less fortunate children.   #EnergyMoversByNature #CentricaEnergy

PPA MOMENTUM IN THE BALTICS CONTINUES 🇱🇹⚡️ We’re excited to announce that we’ve signed three renewable Power Purchase Agreements with European Energy, a key global player in the development of renewable energy capacity. Starting September 2024, we’ll be offtaking power from the Telsiai I and Telsiai II wind farms and the Anyksciai solar farm, and together these sites will provide more than 498 GWh of renewable electricity annually, equivalent to the consumption of approximately 240,000 households or offsetting around 150,000 tonnes of CO2e emissions each year.   This agreement is the latest in a series of agreements we have concluded in the Baltic markets, and today our portfolio of wind and solar assets under management in the Baltic states has reached a total of 366 MW.
