The International Centre for Life (or ‘Life’ as we’re known) is a pioneering science village in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne. We are proudly independent, entrepreneurial and quirky – and we are always interested in hearing from people with the talent, drive and skills to help us continue to make a difference. Our mission is to ignite and nurture a curiosity in everyone for science, technology, engineering and maths and to encourage the next generation of STEM professionals. We support world-class science in the region and strive to make a positive economic, social and cultural contribution to our region. Life Science Centre, which opened in May 2000, is the science centre for the North, attracting around 300,000 visitors per year. Our varied and exciting engagement programme serves families, schools, adults, pre-schoolers and teenagers.

Exciting News!🎉 We are thrilled to announce that our Chief Executive, Linda Conlon, has been awarded a prestigious international accolade from the Association of Science and Technology Centers, (ASTC), which represents science centres and museums worldwide. Linda joins an elite group of Fellows of the ASTC who have ‘performed exemplary service to the field and furthered the public understanding of science’. Presented at the ASTC annual conference in Chicago, this prestigious accolade is ASTC’s highest individual honour and Linda is the first European woman to receive this award in the organisation’s 50-year history. Congratulations to Linda on this remarkable achievement!

Our team had an inspiring weekend at the British Association of Planetaria Conference at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh 🔭 It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with the planetarium community from across the UK. Ben & Tommy showcased our in-house show, What Santa Sees, receiving lots of cheers and applause from the audience 🎅👏 Meanwhile, Lauren led a thought-provoking session on enhancing inclusion for sensory groups in the planetarium, sparking meaningful conversations about accessibility and engagement.

Leading an open debate with the audience, is a panel of experts in the field including Anna Holland – a postgraduate student spokesperson for the climate action group, Just Stop Oil, who made the news in 2022 by throwing Tomato Soup at Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers.” Anna is awaiting sentencing for this later this month. 🗣️ Exciting Speaker Announcement! We're thrilled to welcome Dr Maria Rovisco to our expert panel at the upcoming Science Speakeasy: Climate Criminals on Thursday, September 19th. Maria is Associate Professor in Sociology at the School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds, and the Lead for the Research Area on Arts at the Bauman Institute.
