About us

CDP is a global non-profit that runs the world’s environmental disclosure system for companies, cities, states and regions. Founded in 2000 and working with more than 680 financial institutions with over $130 trillion in assets, CDP pioneered using capital markets and corporate procurement to motivate companies to disclose their environmental impacts, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources and protect forests. Nearly 20,000 organizations around the world disclosed data through CDP in 2022, including more than 18,700 companies worth half of global market capitalization, and over 1,100 cities, states and regions. Fully TCFD aligned, CDP holds the largest environmental database in the world, and CDP scores are widely used to drive investment and procurement decisions towards a zero carbon, sustainable and resilient economy. CDP is a founding member of the Science Based Targets initiative, We Mean Business Coalition, The Investor Agenda and the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative. "There is no way to manage and build resilient cities without measuring their environmental and climate impacts. Through the CDP-ICLEI Track platform, cities, states, and regions can disclose their data and, from that, take urgent actions to build a truly sustainable economy." — Rodrigo Perpétuo, Executive Secretary of ICLEI for South America.   Disclose now: https://lnkd.in/e89ckqJc

Cities are a pivotal piece of the puzzle in meaningfully and effectively tackling climate change. Over 1,100 cities disclosed data through CDP-ICLEI Track in 2023, with 636 cities reporting a total of 2,346 climate-related projects, worth $146 billion, seeking financing and funding. Every single city needs investment to be ramped up to meet its climate goals, and the Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliance (CCFLA) State of Cities Climate Finance report is a timely guide on where and how to mobilize more finance for city-level climate action at scale.

📢 LIVE NOW! The 2024 State of Cities Climate Finance Report 🏙️ Cities are at the heart of the climate transition, but they need significantly more investment to hit their climate targets. With over half the world's population currently living in urban areas, and that number rising to 70% by 2050, the time to act is now. CCFLA's assessment shows that annual urban climate finance must increase more than fivefold to attain a 1.5°C climate pathway. This creates a significant opportunity for investing in low-emission, resilient infrastructure, provided we tackle some key challenges. The 2024 State of Cities Climate Finance report offers an in-depth look at urban climate finance and needs worldwide. It’s designed to support CCFLA in rallying resources for impactful city-level climate initiatives by 2030. Let’s turn these insights into action! As another Climate Week draws to a close, we’re proud of the progress achieved, and look forward to more impactful partnerships and conversations. For CDP, collaboration was at the heart of this week’s successes. Our CEO Sherry Madera stood alongside President Joe Biden, Mike Bloomberg and Mary Schapiro to mark a new stage in our partnership with Net-Zero Data Public Utility (NZDPU), introducing the next use case for CDP data. This follows our new collaboration with Brazil’s Securities & Exchange Commission, as a powerful demonstration of our commitment to evolve disclosure through our “write once, use many” approach. These initiatives ensure businesses can disclose their core climate data once, making it widely accessible without additional reporting – driving action where it matters most.  And we’ve shown how it’s working. Our new research demonstrates how a single disclosure can support businesses not only to reduce supply chain emissions, but unlock new opportunities.  The path ahead remains challenging. To succeed, we must continue to streamline and evolve disclosure, making data more efficient and effective for businesses and the planet. Thank you to everyone who joined us at CDP-led events and other key events throughout #ClimateWeekNYC. Let’s stay united in our efforts to propel #climateaction beyond this week. 📢 I'm happy to share the release of the 2024 State of Cities Climate Finance Report! 🏙 Cities are at the forefront of the climate transition, yet they need substantially more investment to meet their climate targets. With over half the world's population currently living in urban areas and that number expected to rise to 70% by 2050, the urgency to act is clear. 📊 The report reveals that annual urban climate finance needs to increase fivefold to stay on track for a 1.5°C pathway. This presents a significant opportunity to invest in low-emission, resilient infrastructure, but also highlights key challenges that we must address to unlock this potential. 🌍 With detailed insights into global urban climate finance needs, the report underscores the importance of Commitment, Collaboration, Capacity Building, and Capital Mobilization. These are the keys to ensuring cities lead the global climate transition. 🌱 The time for action is now. Let’s turn these insights into impactful change and work together to close the urban climate finance gap. A huge congratulations to the incredible Climate Policy Initiative/Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliance (CCFLA) team behind this report: Jessie Press-Williams, Priscilla Negreiros, Chavi Meattle, Hamza A., Arthur Vieira, José Eduardo Díaz Azcúnaga, Ben Melling, Costanza Strinati, Angel Jacob, Pauline Baudry, Angela Pavuk. Measuring and managing supply chain emissions makes business sense.    With corporate supply chain emissions (scope 3) on average 26x greater than operational emissions (scopes 1 and 2), companies have the opportunity to reduce environmental impacts and future-proof their businesses, by cascading transparency and action down the supply chain.    Using insights and learnings from more than 340 major corporate buyers engaging their suppliers through CDP’s Supply Chain Program, our latest report, funded by HSBC, identifies buyer practices driving climate action from suppliers:  https://lnkd.in/e_En3RS4

Just two days into #ClimateWeekNYC and I’m in awe of the momentum and progress.  Collaboration is at the heart of driving the much-needed change in our sustainability ecosystem. I was proud today to announce the next stage in CDP’s partnership with the Net Zero Data Public Utility (NZDPU) and to share the stage with The President of the United States, Joe Biden, Mike Bloomberg, Mary Schapiro, Jean-Paul Servais and David Schwimmer to introduce it to the world.  CDP is helping increase the value of reporting for businesses by empowering them to write once, for many uses. In recent months, we’ve progressed this by aligning with IFRS S2, by introducing a single questionnaire for companies, and now, by using our unmatched dataset to power the NZDPU. This means CDP’s core climate data from more than 10,000 companies will be available for public purposes through the NZDPU. A new use case, but no additional reporting for companies. There is absolutely no point in reporting if it ends up in a silo. It makes it hard for users to compare performance between markets, forcing businesses to report to several places at once. I’m proud of CDP and our incredible teams leading the charge to solve this problem. We are building an environmental data market with a write once, use many ethos at its core. We can only do this by working with our valued partners. Just last week, we announced our partnership with Brazil’s Security and Exchange Commission, which will see CDP provide IFRS S2-aligned data to support Brazilian companies’ mandatory reporting. If this is just day two, I’m even more excited for day three and day four.  Bloomberg Philanthropies / Net-Zero Data Public Utility (NZDPU) / CDP
