Countesthorpe Academy, part of the LIFE MULTI-ACADEMY TRUST, is a co-educational comprehensive secondary school based in Leicestershire. Apps for Good’s Innovate for Climate Change course has been taught to over 150 Year 7 students at the Academy since January 2024. The 'pick up and deliver' resources have enabled non-specialist computing teachers to deliver the course. For these students in their first year of secondary school, the course has been a valuable introduction to new digital skills, independent learning as well as building on their essential skills. Teachers noted that the involvement of an industry volunteer, who dedicated time to engage with students' ideas, was highly motivating and profoundly impactful on their learning journey. Sam Richardson, Real LiFE Leader at Countesthorpe Academy said, "If we think about future work related skills, things that future employers will be looking for, how many places can say that you'll have an opportunity at the age of 12 to sit and talk to an industry volunteer? My abiding 'wow factor' of it all is that they all rose to the challenge and it helped us have faith that they can do it, and they will do it! Everybody took part, and we had such a great time - they loved it and the experts who Apps for Good are linked with are brilliant. Real life is all about those opportunities and we really big the opportunity up for the students. It’s wonderful for us as teachers, it really works and it has been the thing that they've enjoyed most and feel proud of." We were excited to be invited to the Edufuturists Awards last Thursday, and delighted that Apps for Good was recognised as highly commended in the 'Most Innovative Educational Project' category 🤩🎉 Natalie and Lucy had such a fun evening alongside trustees Emma Darcy and James Garnett, and felt inspired by all the changemakers at the event who are making huge strides to transform education. A big thank you to Ben Whitaker and Steven Hope, and congratulations to all of the winners! #Uprising2024

We're pleased to be with Fair Education Alliance today at their Fair Education Summit, hearing more about their priorities for the new Government 👏 One of their priorities is for 'an education system that prepares every young person to thrive in work and life' - something that we aim to achieve with our Apps for Good courses!

Congratulations The Rt Hon Keir Starmer and The Labour Party on winning the General Election. We look forward to working together to tackle inequality in education and make education fair for every child and young person, regardless of their socioeconomic background. https://lnkd.in/gnXkRMDk    On election night we were delighted to hear Secretary of State for Education, The Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson MP, promise to “tear down the barriers to opportunity which hold back too many of our children”.     Today we’re launching Fair Education in 2024: Priorities for a New Government – providing the new Government with policies that prioritise, above all else, tackling inequality. We also look at fresh ideas already being implemented by some of our coalition of 300 members, and invite the Government to work with us all to develop and implement solutions together.     Please join us in sharing this as widely as possible, as we speak with one unified voice – fair education is achievable! https://lnkd.in/gnXkRMDk #FairEdForAll
