Congratulations to the Cannaray team on becoming the number one CBD brand in the UK based on Nielsen data, with listings in every major national UK retailer selling CBD. Cannaray was the first brand to trust BigSmall with delivering a major creative campaign off the back of our brand strategy phase. The appointment was an important moment for our start-up business and we're thankful to Tim Clarke and Jessica Mills for putting their faith in us. Tim and Jess understood the category inside out, gave us a super-clear brief and pushed us hard to deliver 'meaningless distinctiveness' in the creative we developed. It also helped that they didn't panic when we created a script that Clearcast blew out and had to start over. Together, we landed a positioning for the brand, then moved that into a visual identity system and new packaging (led by our Brains Trust design gurus Silas Amos and Derek&Eric). From the start, the idea of using a celebrity in comms to 'normalise' CBD had been discussed. But who should that be? We brought in another Brains Trust partner, Catriona Blampied, our go-to talent specialist, to advise us. Cat helped us to agree the right celebrity approach and we ultimately formed a partnership with Claudia Winkleman. The resulting campaign, shot by Benjamin Green at MindsEye with media through Goodstuff, showed Claudia launching her 'CBD Revolution'. In the creative world, AdAge named it Editor's Pick, but more importantly for our retail distribution targets, The Grocer named it their Ad of the Week. Dominic Mills wrote a nice piece for Mediatel using a graph he'd made from Google Analytics, showing the enormous spike in searches for Cannaray when the ad first aired in TV. (Thanks Dominic, we have rolled that out in creds meetings a few times since...)
