Dan Crook, Managing Director for Group Protection of Canada Life UK, comments on the final IPPR ’s report on Health and Prosperity, which reveals that economic inactivity due to sickness could reach 4.3 million by the end of the next parliament: “The final report of the IPPR Commission on Health and Prosperity underscores the significant health challenges the UK faces, alongside the urgent need for innovative strategies to revitalise the economy. We are encouraged by the report’s focus on making healthier lives a cross-society mission, with an emphasis on the environments where people spend the majority of their time – particularly in workplaces. “The Government, employers, and insurers all have a vital role to play, working together to enhance and sustain the wellbeing of the UK’s workforce. With our protection policies supporting over 3 million employees financially, emotionally, and practically, we see first-hand the crucial role protection plays in addressing and preventing health challenges. By working collaboratively, we can do even more to support both employers and employees, reduce workplace absence due to ill health, and ultimately drive productivity across the UK.” Read the full report here: https://ow.ly/wOw750TpTe5 #employeewellbeing #workplacehealth #CanadaLifeUK

Dan Crook, Managing Director for Group Protection of Canada Life UK, comments on the recent IPPR’s ‘Healthy Industry, Prosperous Economy’ report, which reveals a £30bn rise in the hidden cost of employee sickness since 2018: “It is concerning to see such an uplift in the hidden productivity costs of employees working through sickness, and a significant number of workers not taking the time off to recover when unwell. Our research shows that, over the past two years, 68% of UK workers - equivalent to 21.7 million people - have continued to work while feeling unwell [1]. “Creating a workplace culture where employees feel at ease to take sick leave and step away from their day-to-day work to focus on their health, without question or hesitation from the employer, must be a priority. “As the report rightly outlines, the Government, employers and insurers, like ourselves, all have a vital role to play in sustaining and improving the wellbeing of the UK’s workforce. Our protection policies provide financial, emotional and practical support to around 3 million employees across the country. We urge the Government to work with businesses to explore what more can be done to support employers and employees to manage challenges relating to ill health, which will in turn boost workforce productivity.” Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/expgZeYA [1].Survey conducted by Opinium among a nat rep sample of 2000 UK adults between 10 - 14 November 2023 #employeewellbeing #workplacehealth #CanadaLifeUK

An exciting couple of weeks as we continue our partnership with 55/Redefined to grow and deliver our age-inclusive strategy. This year, Nick Harding, our Chief People Officer, shared how Canada Life UK has started to take a different approach to address the talent shortages we have been facing in the Isle of Man during the Age Pioneer Summit. Last week, our leadership and management teams on the island enjoyed a truly inspiring workshop focused on unlocking the potential of our ageing population. Nick Harding comments: "The world of work and life is changing rapidly. As we live longer, and well past the traditionally defined age of retirement we are seeing significant shifts in attitudes, openness and motives for work in our 50’s and un-retiring population. This provides us with a unique opportunity to learn and think differently. At Canada Life, we are passionate and committed to ensuring we are taking a wide view of skills, experience and the needs of intra-generational teams, to identify and nurture talent and the Isle of Man has been a great place to start this journey” Lyndsey Simpson Sean Christian Imelda (Mel) Toner David Sutton #CanadaLifeUK #AgeInclusive #AgePioneers
