Are you currently working on a 'vampire task'? 🧛♂️💼 Our #CambridgeDictionary defines 'vampire task' as one of the routine but necessary administrative tasks that employees have to spend a lot of time doing rather than more important work. These sorts of tasks range from filing documents, clearing emails, scheduling meetings, chasing co-workers, and more. If your days feel long, stressful, yet still unproductive, you might be getting bogged down by 'vampire tasks'. Should this word be added to the #dictionary? Let us know what you think! "We already have deep education partnerships with countless countries around the globe, and I want to build more." This week, the UK's new Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson explained the power of international education. "Students come and build bonds with their classmates – and friendships between students become friendships between countries. "That’s what education is all about. A force for good in people’s lives, a force for good in our world." #WeAreInternational https://lnkd.in/eUXMXu7y

On #WorldYouthSkillsDay, we join in highlighting the importance of equipping young people with the skills they need for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship. Last week, we welcomed dozens of local students to our offices in #Cambridge to take part in a range of workshops and activities aimed at not only building confidence and skills, but also providing exposure to the many different career pathways our own colleagues have taken. Well done to all the inspiring local students, colleagues, and partners involved in these recent initiatives 👏
What better way to mark ‘World Youth Skills Day’ than to celebrate the talented and creative students we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming to Cambridge University Press & Assessment this summer! · 26 Year 10 work experience students have explored employability skills with us, delving into CVs, interviews, elevator pitches, presentations, marketing and book jacket design, product development, teaching and learning trends, data, sustainability, storytelling, cultural differences, and workplace coaching. They’ve also spent time visiting our Press Museum and the Historic Print Room at the University Library. · 15 sixth form students joined us for a day of workshops and impressed us with their insights into sustainable actions and barriers to them. The students were tasked with identifying potential solutions to sustainability issues and presenting their ideas and action plans to our Global Director of Climate Education, Christine Ozden. We were also fortunate to have some of our 26 summer interns join us across these sessions, taking part in workshops, career carousels, and supporting school students in developing their ideas and presentations. Huge thanks to our colleagues and partners involved in these initiatives, including local state schools, Social Mobility Business Partnership, Cultural Services Cambridge City Council and Flex Legal, for introducing these young people to a vast range of opportunities in our industry, build confidence, and help to grow skills.
