    The internet is crawling with tips designed to help hopeful candidates nail their job interviews. But there is limited assistance for the people sat on the other side of the table and we know that conducting an interview isn’t easy. You have just a short period of meaningful interaction to gather vital information on your candidates and make a judgement on their suitability for your vacancy and business. ▪️ Research your candidates ▪️ Have an idea of what you're looking for but be open to new skills ▪️ Remember to offer refreshments to your candidate ▪️ Explain how the interview will flor ▪️ Don't forget to listen ▪️ Create an environment where your candidate can relax ▪️ Be prepared to answer questions about your business ▪️ Be enthusiastic about the job they are interviewing for Now over to you!     ❓ What process can you expect for your tech job interview ❓ Tech interviews can be slightly different than interviewing in other sectors, as you often need to prove your experience through practical testing and screening. Many tech interviews also begin way before you meet in person! 1️⃣ It’s very common to undertake initial screening calls. These can often be 15 minutes with the hiring manager or one of the team leads to discuss your skills as listed on the CV. Tech jobs often come with specific requirements, as you are commonly working with an established tech stack. These screening calls can include some very quick-fire questions about your technical skillset and capabilities. 2️⃣ Once you have progressed from that stage, you may be given a task such as reviewing code or writing your own. This is to establish if you have the skills required. 3️⃣ From there, you can go on to in-person interviews and meetings with the wider team. This is really to establish if you are a cultural fit.     What a superb morning at Talking HR with Cathedral Appointments. It was great to hear from our speakers and guests on how they are 'Navigating the New Normal, tackling the changing shift from onsite to hybrid and remote working.

    Is hybrid working the way forward? That was the topic on everyone's minds yesterday at our second Talking HR with Cathedral Appointments event! We set up Talking HR to give HR and talent professionals from across the South West the opportunity to connect, share insights and discuss topics affecting people in the workplace. As more conversations and positive steps are made in the mental health space, employers and colleagues can play an important part in the mental health journey for everyone in a business. 💙 Train a mental health first aider to empower your team to take action when required 💙 Ensure your health insurance package includes mental health as well as physical 💙 Offer phased returns for colleagues returning from absence 💙 Offer reasonable adjustments such as flexible hours, hybrid or remote working and access to quiet spaces These are just a small handful of ways we can support each other with our mental health. Whether you are having regular check-ins or providing more complex support, each step can play a part in helping someone with their mental health.     📰 Your employment market digest 📰 As expected, there was a dip in the hiring market in July as many business leaders, hiring managers and candidates headed off on holiday to enjoy some well-earned rest. Despite changes in the market as we navigate the summer months, we are having good conversations with businesses who want to hire in the final quarter of the year! The highlights... 🔹4.2% drop in roles posted to job platforms like Indeed, Reed, Total Jobs and LinkedIn 🔹23,000 candidates on our database, with 41% of these signed up to job alerts, and 77% of candidates we placed in July were found by our experts  🔹Demand for staff across the 10 main sectors has declined, however, Engineering, Accountancy and Financial Services are bucking this trend Check out more insights from July >> https://shorturl.at/1x4gX #hiring #recruitment #employment #businessinsights #exeter #southwest
