C40 is a network of nearly 100 world-leading cities taking urgent action to confront the climate crisis. 🌳 🚴♀️
About us
C40 is a network of nearly 100 mayors of the world’s leading cities who are working to deliver the urgent action needed right now to confront the climate crisis and create a future where everyone, everywhere, can thrive. Mayors of C40 cities are committed to using a science-based and people-focused approach to help the world limit global heating to 1.5°C and build healthy, equitable and resilient communities. Through a Global Green New Deal, mayors are working alongside a broad coalition of representatives from labour, business, the youth climate movement and civil society to go further and faster than ever before. The current Chair of C40 is Mayor of London Sadiq Khan; and three-term Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg serves as President of the Board. C40’s work is made possible by our three strategic funders: Bloomberg Philanthropies, Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), and Realdania.

During #ClimateWeekNYC, C40 Co-Chair Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, was joined by actor and water advocate Matt Damon, fellow Water.org co-founder Gary White and Will Hewes, Water Stewardship Lead for Amazon at The Climate Pledge summit. 🌊💡 The summit focused on building resilient water systems and enhancing water access amid increasing climate challenges like floods and droughts. Speaking about the summit, Mayor Khan said: “More than half of the world's population live in urban areas which are facing more frequent climate-induced water issues, including drought, flooding, sea-level rise, storms and water pollution. Under my leadership, C40 has chosen to allocate two-thirds of its budget to cities in the Global South, which have done the least to create this crisis, but are bearing the brunt of it.” Read more ➡️ https://c40.me/3ZGVlZh #WaterSafeCities

During my time working for London City Hall, I sought out best practices from the world’s greatest cities, from bike lanes to climate action plans. One of the many values of C40 Cities is peer-to-peer learning - mayors around the world are learning from one another’s experiences to improve life for residents of their cities. Great to join Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, Janette Sadik-Khan, & Seth Solomonow on a visit to Times Square to hear their lessons from pedestrianising this iconic spot, as Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan prepares to revolutionise London’s Oxford Street with more space for people.
Such an inspiring visit to New York’s Times Square—a world-class regeneration project, which showcased: ✔️ Enhanced spaces to walk, sit & cycle ✔️ Once congested spaces transformed into modern civic spaces ✔️ Boosted economic growth ✔️ Improved safety & green credentials What we learn will help us as we look to radically overhaul London’s Oxford Street so it can compete with other international high street destinations.
