We are thrilled to have presented the data from our landmark study at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2024, with findings showing an improvement in cancer detection rates of over 12% in GP practices utilising C the Signs in Ipswich and East Suffolk🙌 It was an honour to co-author this study, with Dr Peter Holloway and Claire Corbett from NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board (SNEE), and Seema Dadhania from Imperial College London 👏 This study, conducted in partnership with SNEE, with the support of East of England Cancer Alliance and Health Innovation East, underscores the importance of integrating cutting-edge technologies into primary care to improve cancer detection rates and facilitate early-stage diagnosis. Following this study in Ipswich and East Suffolk, C the Signs has now been rolled out to the entire ICB, serving 1 million patients 🙌 We take immense pride in our NHS partnerships, particularly in the diligent efforts of primary care teams tirelessly working to identify cancer at its earliest stages across the regions 💙 You can read the abstract here in the Journal of Clinical Oncology ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/e3tWC7YX

It is a well-known fact that there is a gender health gap when it comes to women’s healthcare. Health gaps are differences in the prevalence of disease, health outcomes, or access to healthcare across different groups. A report by the Health and Social Care Committee, 'Unheard: Women's journey through gynaecological cancer', highlighted the pressing need for change and reflection of the current state of women’s healthcare, and quality of cancer care. In the report they conclude that women's cancer concerns have been "dismissed, downplayed, and unheard," describing a "dangerous bias" against women that must be stamped out. The growing evidence and research highlights the devastating consequences of delayed diagnoses of gynaecological cancers. Misdiagnoses and dismissive responses have led to advanced-stage cancers, unnecessary suffering and ultimately the loss of lives. Ultimately, women know their own bodies and when they feel something is wrong, action needs to be taken. Knowledge is power. Awareness of how gynaecological cancers can present is key in improving survival. It is crucial that widespread public awareness campaigns continue to raise awareness of the symptoms not only for patients but for healthcare professionals too. We hope this will empower women to not only report their symptoms to their GP, but open a discussion for trust and mutual respect for women to be heard, and for action to be taken. As advocates for women's health, it's imperative that we amplify these voices and urge policymakers and healthcare leaders to continue to take decisive action. It is crucial that a deeper understanding of the diseases that affect women is shared more widely, and that this is reflected in policy and healthcare provision to provide equitable care. Every woman deserves timely and respectful care, and together, we can ensure that no one falls through the cracks. 💙 #WomensHealth #ClosingTheGap #HealthEquality #CancerAwareness

🌟 The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) has finalised new recommendations for breast cancer screening, advocating for regular mammograms to start at age 40 instead of 50, every other year, until the age of 74. 🌟 Early detection saves lives, and these updated guidelines aim to ensure that more women have access to potentially life-saving screenings. The shift reflects a growing understanding of the importance of starting screenings earlier, particularly for women in their 40s, who are increasingly being diagnosed with breast cancer. The USPSTF also highlighted the need for further research into screening disparities faced by different racial groups in the U.S. and acknowledged that Black women, who are 40% more likely to die from breast cancer than white women, are more likely to be diagnosed in their 40s with more aggressive forms of the disease. Introducing regular breast screening earlier will undoubtedly save lives. These updated guidelines bring the US in alignment with many other organisations that recommend screening, or offering the choice to start screening, at age 40. They underscore the importance of prioritising early detection efforts to improve breast cancer outcomes for women across the country. For women in the UK, the NHS currently offers breast screening every 3 years, between the ages of 50 and 71. As the US makes strides towards improving screening protocols, it's crucial for other countries to follow suit. As healthcare providers, advocates, and individuals, let's continue to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and support initiatives such as this, which have the potential to guide healthcare policy through evidence-based medicine, making screening more accessible to all.💪  #BreastCancerAwareness #EarlyDetection #USPSTF #WomensHealth

“She hasn’t lost a battle, she wasn’t in a fight and she certainly wouldn’t want you to see her death as tragic. She was simply living.” In loving memory of Kris, we celebrate a life lived boldly, and whose boundless creativity inspired many. Kris was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer at the young age of 23, having been turned away from her GP several times for over a year. Despite facing a terminal prognosis, she channelled her passion into founding CoppaFeel!, driven by the belief that no one should endure the same fate due to delayed diagnosis. Through her tireless advocacy, Kris raised awareness about the importance of early detection and accurate diagnosis, sparking conversations about early detection and empowering individuals to take control of their health. In honouring Kris's legacy, we pledge to continue her mission in early and accurate cancer detection, striving for a world free from late diagnoses. We stand alongside CoppaFeel! in their crucial efforts to encourage, educate, and empower 18-24 year olds to normalise checking and recognise the early signs and symptoms of breast cancer. Our deepest sympathies go out to Kris’s family, friends, and everyone at CoppaFeel! HQ. Let us remember Kris for the joy she brought, the lives she touched, and the enduring legacy she leaves behind. And above all, let us honour her memory by sharing her timeless advice: "Trust your body, believe in hope, leave room for miracles." 💙

We share the sad news that our founder, boob chief, colleague, friend and queen of glittering turds, Kris, has died. Kris was the biggest promoter of being ‘alive to do those things’. She approached life in a wildly creative, fun and fearless way, and showed us that it is possible to live life to the full with cancer. In 2009 Kris was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer at the age of 23, after being turned away from her GP for over a year. By the time she was diagnosed, it was terminal. Kris’ ambition was for no one else to find themselves in her position and so CoppaFeel! was born, to ensure breast cancers are diagnosed early and accurately. Kris has reached millions of people with her message of health advocacy and empowerment, successfully campaigned for cancer education to be included in the school curriculum, won the Women of the Year Outstanding Young Campaigner award, received an Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration from Nottingham Trent University and wrote a Times Best Selling book: Glittering a Turd. Kris’ life mission was that CoppaFeel! would no longer need to exist, with late diagnosis of breast cancer eradicated in her lifetime. We are committed to continuing Kris’ legacy, to ensure that everyone has the best chance of living a happy and healthy life. If you’d like to support this mission, you can donate at the link in our bio. For 15 years Kris had been living with secondary breast cancer. She hasn’t lost a battle, she wasn’t in a fight and she certainly wouldn’t want you to see her death as tragic. She was simply living. She was 38 and died with fulfilment and a heart full of love. Kris’ family have one request - for peace and privacy to allow them the time and space needed to process Kris’ death. We would like to thank our community for your love and messages of support and kindly ask that you respect the family’s wishes at this time. Please remember the amazing life Kris led and the things she achieved, but above all else honour her memory by checking your chest…it could just save your life. ‘Trust your body, believe in hope, leave room for miracles.’ Kris Hallenga With love from all at CoppaFeel! HQ x
