Last night our Social Mapping Lead, James Green joined a discussion panel hosted by GlobalWelsh 💬This morning, James shares his reflections: "Global Welsh facilitated a lively event where the energy of a full house made one thing clear - that Wales has the passion to not only deliver green, but be leaders in the transition. It was a pleasure to be part of a distinguished panel who comprehensively covered the current state, but was bold to explore the solutions to current barriers around planning and skills. "I enjoyed contributing by sharing the Community Investment team's ambitions to action a data-driven approach to Community Benefits. Informed by Social Mapping which highlights the relationships between local community needs and who is addressing these. Plus, our Social Value Standard which mobilisers contracted suppliers to deliver work and projects that further benefit local communities. 💡 "What I picked up from the conversation: 1. "The setting of the scene by Ben Burggraaf from Net Zero Industry Wales was clear: Wales has very ambitious targets to decarbonise and generate its own renewable energy. The levels of investment are unprecedented and need to be delivered at speed. The planning and permitting processes in Welsh Government need to be well resourced and utilised as a way to attract investment. 2. "We need to create lasting legacy and maximise social value from communities and future generations. 3. "Helen Thomas, RWE described the importance of building green skills and ensuring community benefits are delivered appropriately. Ms Thomas highlighted RWE's developed approach for supplier engagement and their STEP initiative. Supply chain clusters are also key to unlock the benefits of local procurement - to understand supplier capabilities and the independent link between supply chain needs and skills development. 🗣️ "I proudly spoke to the establishment on an in-house Community Investment team pre-consent to best identify how to leverage social value opportunities and mobilise supply chain and investment into local communities. Mapping resources are important for ensuring legacy and resilience. I also explained how, whilst the main aim of our Social Value Standard is to draw additional support to our communities - contracted suppliers can also benefit from their commitment by gaining further investment opportunities through metrics and case studies from their offer." It's the final day of the Labour Party Conference here in Liverpool and our colleagues have learnt a lot from some of the fringe events. One of those being a session on 'Claiming the Online Backlash: How Disinformation Threatens the 2030 Clean Energy Mission'. Eluned Lewis shares her thoughts on the topic and stresses how open, authentic conversations with local communities where infrastructure is proposed to be built can lead to a stronger, more productive partnership. 🔗 Read her blog here: https://lnkd.in/ewDBTPsN #LPC24 #Lab24 #renewableenergy #onshorewind

🗣️ Getting Britain building and driving a rapid expansion in onshore renewable energy means navigating public support and local community views. I attended a Labour conference fringe event on building better consultation and engagement. Great to see Give My View (Powered by LandTech) involved in the event and supporting policy work. I'm really excited to be working with the Give My View team to roll the platform out across the whole of Bute Energy's projects; reaching more people, more diverse audiences, and engaging communities more frequently in the development of our energy parks.

💬 “Move fast and build things” has been Ed Miliband’s message consistently throughout the week so far. Staff members have been attending as many fringe events as possible at the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool. One of the most interesting was this morning’s session hosted by IPPR and Energy UK on delivering Labour’s green energy targets 🎯 The panel spoke about fairness in the transition to net zero, job opportunities and this mission being about local economic investment. Panelists included: • Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero • Heather Boushey, Member of the Council of Economic Advisers and Chief Economist for the President’s Invest in America Cabinet, the White House • Luke Murphy MP, Chair of the APPG on Climate Change • Emma Pinchbeck, CEO, Energy UK #LPC24 #Lab24
