We were saddened to learn of the recent death of Sir Ernest Hall, the 'father' of our first place partnership in Calderdale, Halifax. With BITC, Sir Ernest created the Dean Clough Industrial Park, bringing 170 new small businesses and 1200 jobs to an area that previously housed the world's largest, but now empty, carpet factory. If you're interested in learning more about how some of our key projects and campaigns started, take a look at our timeline, which highlights the collective achievements of BITC and our members that have driven the #ResponsibleBusiness journey, as well as the important individuals who have helped shape the organisation since its inception: https://lnkd.in/ePRAyV7c

👏 We are delighted to welcome Nicholas Potter, CFO, Simplyhealth as the new Chair of the South East Leadership Board. Nick will lead the Board in tackling inequality and unemployment across the region; focusing on the role of businesses in supporting the skills development of those facing barriers to work and fostering inclusive recruitment practices within businesses. 🗣️ Commenting on his appointment, Nick said: "I’m honoured to have been appointed Chair of the South East Leadership Board for Business in the Community. As Chief Financial Officer at Simplyhealth I’m passionate about the role of business as a force for good in society - balancing people, planet, and profit equitably. During my tenure I’m looking to encourage and support all members to go further than they have before in supporting our communities, be that through improving employment skills, environmental action, improving the health and wellbeing of employees and families as well as targeting specific issues of the day in the region such as food inequality. Much has been done to date, but the opportunities to drive better outcomes for all communities through business have never been stronger or more needed." 💡 Find out more about our South East Leadership Board on our website: https://lnkd.in/ew5ntg93
