About us
Born from innovation, Burberry is a global luxury brand with a rich British heritage. Founded in 1856, our brand is underpinned by our founder’s passion for the outdoors. Thomas Burberry invented the innovative rain-ready fabric gabardine to protect explorers from the elements. In doing so, he created the foundation for the iconic Burberry trench coat, which remains core to the business even today. Guided by our history of exploration and our shared belief that ‘creativity opens spaces’, our purpose is to unlock the power of imagination to push boundaries and open new possibilities for our people, our customers and our communities. As a values-driven brand, we are committed to creating the next generation of sustainable luxury and believe that diversity, equity and inclusion are essential to fulfilling our purpose. Fostering an inclusive culture where differences are valued and embraced enables us to be more creative, engaged and make a more meaningful contribution to the world around us. ‘ENDURANCE’, the National Geographic Documentary Film which tells the heroic tale of Ernest Shackleton and the recovery of his sunken ship is now available to stream on Disney . In 1914, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his crew wore Burberry gabardine while traversing the vast continent of Antarctica. When their ship, the Endurance, was lost to frigid pack ice, Shackleton kept his crew of 27 men alive for over a year. Featuring Burberry gabardine replicas of the garments worn by Shackleton and his crew, the documentary film combines masterfully restored archival footage with modern-day technology to bring Shackleton’s voyage to life. Introducing our new flagship store in Sanlitun, an outdoor district and iconic shopping destination in Beijing. Inspired by London architecture, our storied heritage is explored through the store’s design touches. Natural stone features are reminiscent of British limestone, while the staircase is complete with a metal balustrade, akin to the cast iron railings found on London streets. Set across three floors, the space features key pieces from Burberry Classics and our latest outerwear campaign, alongside our Winter 2024 collection. The store is located at 19 Sanlitun Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing. Discover more about the opening here: https://lnkd.in/e9JBgT5N

We continue to celebrate our outerwear heritage by taking our next pop-up to the Hankyu Umeda department store in Osaka. Inspired by the joy of British park and the outdoors, the pop-up references traditional features found in a London park, featuring benches and public checkers tables which visitors are invited to play at. Our Outerwear 2024 collection is also featured within the pop-up, including an exclusive selection of men’s and women’s quilted jackets and knits. Accessories include the Burberry Check tote, the Peg bag and the Rocking Horse bag, and embroidered scarves in wool cashmere. The Hankyu Umeda pop-up will run until 5 November.

To celebrate our outerwear heritage, the Shelter, a joyful illustration taken from the Burberry archive, is revived for our ‘It’s Always Burberry Weather’ campaign. Featuring in murals and on posters from London to Brooklyn, the Shelter was used as a brand signifier from the late 1970s to the early 1990s and derived from a 1933 catalogue showing a man and woman standing back-to-back with two dogs. Recreated with a ‘Burberrys’ shelter displaying one of our oldest House codes, the Equestrian Knight Design, the logo continued to be used with different weather backdrops and catchphrases. These included ‘Weather-wise’ and ‘Here is the Burberry Forecast’, referencing our heritage of protecting people from the weather. Discover more about our heritage here: https://lnkd.in/eQFNPX-G

Our cashmere scarves are manufactured by Johnstons of Elgin, a Scottish mill which we have partnered with since 1900. In a process that involves over 30 different steps, the cashmere is woven on traditional looms, washed in local spring water, and carefully brushed to create its soft, lustrous feel. Each stage is completed by dedicated craftspeople using expertise passed down through generations, with many processes still completed by hand.
