Very thoughtful feedback from a sixth former from The Highcrest Academy on work experience on our Cardiac and Stroke Receiving Unit at Wycombe Hospital recently. Thank you Thomas for all your enthusiasm and a big shout out to the team for supporting him 🙌
I am thrilled to share my experience last week having gone to Wycombe Hospital's Cardiac and Stroke Receiving Unit for two days! During my time there, I had the incredible opportunity to immerse myself in a fast-paced medical environment. This experience truly opened my eyes and reinforced my goal and passion to help others in the healthcare field. I witnessed firsthand the medical protocols followed by doctors, nurses, and incoming paramedics. It was inspiring to see these healthcare professionals work seamlessly as a team, demonstrating clear and effective communication in high-pressure situations. Their ability to remain empathetic while providing critical care to patients in vulnerable moments was particularly moving and something I wish to achieve. This experience has not only enhanced my understanding of emergency care but also reinforced the importance of continuous learning and adaptability in the medical field with such an ever-changing enviroment. As I continue my journey I'll carry these valuable insights with me. I'm more determined than ever to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to make a positive impact on peoples lives. Thank you to everyone at Wycombe Hospital's CSRU for this invaluable experience. #WorkExperience #Healthcare #WycombeHospital #NHS #BHT

Last night was the finale of our 'Discover careers in...' series of after-school talks aimed at local young people from Years 7 - 13. We ended with our biggest audience yet of over 90 students, parents and carers, looking at how to become a doctor. Our fantastic clinical simulation team stole the show with their all too realistic presentation of anaphylaxis, while Joanne Selway from the University of Buckingham together with her medical students talked us through how to apply and shared their personal career journeys. We also challenged the audience to really think about some fascinating alternatives to medicine, exploring the 350 roles within the #NHS. Next academic year we'll return again to enthuse about #nursing and #midwifery, #psychology, the #AlliedHealthProfessions, #pharmacy, #biomedicalscience and then #medicine again - spreading the word about the local opportunities we offer as the area's biggest employer. Thanks to all the colleagues and partner universities who have supported us through the year to motivate and inspire the next generation of our NHS! Last week our laboratory teams from Stoke Mandeville and Wycombe hospitals led by Azuma Kalu MMedSc MRSB DipMn CSci FIBMS came out in full force to inspire students at 'Discover careers in biomedical science' - the latest in our after-school talks series. Young people, parents, carers and teachers found out all about cellular pathology, blood sciences and microbiology and the different routes into careers in these areas. Many thanks to Laura Thomas and Terry McLaughlin from the University of Hertfordshire for your insight into studying biomedical science as a degree. In the second half, there was the chance to identify bacteria samples, examine specimens down microscopes and even go on a short tour of the blood sciences lab to see for themselves. 💡 Next up is 'Discover careers in medicine' on Wednesday 3 July. We look forward to another packed lecture theatre! https://lnkd.in/eK34unWM Institute of Biomedical Science, NHS England, Health Education England, The Careers & Enterprise Company, Buckinghamshire Skills Hub #healthcarecareers #NHSLongtermWorkforcePlan #GreatPlaceToWork #HealthyCommunities #BrightFuturesAtBHT #NHSjobs
