The BDA is the professional association & trade union for UK dietitians.
About us
The British Dietetic Association (BDA) is a professional association and trade union for dietitians in the United Kingdom. The BDA was founded in 1936 and represents more than 10,000 dietitians and dietetic support workers. The BDA head office is in Birmingham, but has members from all four UK nations and some from overseas. Our aims are to: • Advance the science and practice of dietetics and associated subjects; • Promote training and education in the science and practice of dietetics and associated subjects; • Regulate the relations between dietitians and their employer through the BDA Trade Union. The majority of the BDA's members work in the National Health Service; however, approximately one third of the membership work in other sectors, such as education, private industry, private practice and the media. In the UK, 'Dietitian' is a legally protected title. Unlike nutritionists, all dietitians are required to be educated to UK degree level and must be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC). The BDA Honorary President is Dr Giles Yeo. The Chairman is Caroline Bovey and the Chief Executive Officer is Liz Stockley. The BDA became a certified union in 1982; it is affiliated to the Trades Union Congress and the Scottish Trades Union Congress.

Today concludes a productive two-day engagement in Westminster as the Public Affairs Officer for the British Dietetic Association (BDA). It was a privilege to join the launch of the National Education Union's (NEU) No Child Left Behind Campaign Bus Tour at Parliament Square yesterday. This interesting and enjoyable event featured a diverse group of speakers including human rights activists, musicians, youth ambassadors, trade unionists, and politicians, all supporting universal free school meals in England's primary schools. Over these two days, we met with numerous MPs both at Parliament Square at the FSM campaign launch and at Portcullis House to discuss the BDA's manifesto campaigns: Extending free school meal provision to all primary school children Developing a comprehensive UK Food Strategy Extending independent prescribing rights to dietitians nationwide Strengthening the dietetic workforce in the NHS Committing to fair pay for NHS dietitians We had the pleasure of engaging with: Olivia Blake MP, Rachael Maskell MP, Ian Byrne MP, Connor Naismith MP, Elsie Blundell MP, Charlotte Nichols MP, Andrew Cooper MP, Rachael Maskell MP, Lee Dillon MP, Steve Darling MP, Sam Rushworth MP. I'm pleased to share photographs from these meetings. The MPs' engagement on these important nutrition and public health issues is greatly valued.
