Since 29 October, Spain has been experiencing its worst floods in decades. Torrential rains have caused rivers to overflow, blocking roads, causing power outages and destroying infrastructure. As of 1 November, over 200 people have died, and many more are still missing. The Spanish Red Cross is on the ground in the hardest hit regions. They have deployed Emergency Response Teams in high-risk areas, setting up temporary shelters and caring for the most vulnerable. Red Cross volunteers are distributing basic aid like food, water, blankets, and hygiene kits, and providing first aid and psychosocial support. The British Red Cross is currently monitoring the situation. If you would like to support relief efforts, please donate directly to the Spanish Red Cross: https://lnkd.in/dTGzdytc Please note that this donation site is only available in Spanish, and Gift Aid is not available as funds are collected in Spain. Also, donations must be less than 100 euros unless you have a Spanish ID number.

    • "What people need are basic goods, like water and food, and above all, to charge their cell phones. We have had to ensure that people can charge their phones to keep in touch with family members or return calls from people looking for them." - Tania, Spanish Red Cross volunteer

The British Red Cross features in a four-wall mural space in Shoreditch as part of our integrated brand campaign, showing how we are Here for Humanity for anyone in crisis. The mural has been hand painted using images from our campaign, showing real people being supported by the British Red Cross. The space was provided by Global Street Art free of charge and their teams and artists worked collaboratively with our Brand team to develop the artwork, showing tender moments of humanity.   The mural is located at 17 Great Eastern St, London EC2A 3EJ and will live until the 1 December 2024.

Congratulations to the 16 British Red Cross staff who recently completed our Reach Leadership programme! Over six months, the participants explored topics around leading yourself and leading others, focussing on themes such as identity, influence and impact.   A continual focus on learning, development and a robust knowledge of our own strengths and motivations are crucial to good leadership, the Reach programme provides participants with the opportunity to develop this.   To all those who have completed the programme, good luck in the stretch assignments, apprenticeships and career progression that you are seeking out next. In any crisis, winter can make things considerably worse. Gabriel Karlsson, our Middle East and North Africa Country Manager, is witnessing this first- hand in Lebanon. With an estimated 1 million people forced to flee their homes and humanitarian needs increasing at an alarming rate, we know that, as winter approaches, things will only get more difficult.     But the Lebanese Red Cross has been providing round-the-clock support to communities across Lebanon, and will continue to do everything they can to help people.      Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) member charities are working in Lebanon and the wider region, scaling up their response as the situation in Lebanon evolves, and providing vital support to the hundreds of thousands displaced.            You can help by donating to the DEC Middle East Humanitarian Appeal: https://lnkd.in/esrcdTBt

Gabriel Karlsson, our Middle East and North Africa Country Manager, is witnessing how communities are being pushed deeper into crisis as the conflict continues to escalate across the region. As the situation deteriorates in Gaza, the Palestine Red Crescent Society continues to provide life-saving support to people. But the needs are immense. We urgently need more funds to continue this life-saving work. The Disasters and Emergency Committee has launched the Middle East Humanitarian Appeal. It brings together 15 leading UK aid charities, including the British Red Cross, to raise funds for an effective, coordinated response – getting life-saving support where it’s needed most. If you can, please donate: https://lnkd.in/esrcdTBt
