The largest independent funder of research into heart and circulatory diseases in the UK

About us

We are the British Heart Foundation. Our vision is a world free from the fear of heart and circulatory diseases. We raise money to research cures and treatments for the world’s biggest killers. We fund around £100 million of research each year into all heart and circulatory diseases and the things that cause them. Heart diseases. Stroke. Vascular dementia. Diabetes. They're all connected, and they're all under our microscope. We also help millions of people every year with our up to date information about heart and circulatory diseases so the UK public are better informed. We work hard to protect heart health and fight for better services for heart patients - communicating with politicians, government officials, workplaces and schools.

"I encounter many patients with cardiovascular (CV) disease, and of course, was aware of the great work that the BHF does. I was therefore very pleased to join the BHF as a Trustee to see where I can help." Quote by Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed. For #TrusteesWeek, we caught up with some of the BHF trustees to ask a serious of insightful questions. Learn why they each became a BHF trustee, what they find rewarding about the role and their advice for any colleague thinking about becoming a trustee: https://lnkd.in/epUD-Jfz.

Fans of 'Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing' will have spotted comedy legend Bob Mortimer stopping by our Epping shop in tonight's new episode! While fishing for Rudd at a local lake with co-star Paul Whitehouse, Bob, accompanied by Ted the TV dog, popped into the BHF and donated some of his preloved items to the BHF. In 2015, Bob underwent a triple heart bypass and has been a supporter of the BHF ever since. There are many psychological issues that come with recovering from heart surgery as well as physical ones, and the BAFTA nominated TV show was created to encourage getting outside and living life to the fullest. Bob also spoke with shop assistant Zoe Camilleri about how the public can help by donating to their local BHF shops. Zoe said, “Men typically buy less and tend to hang onto their clothes for longer, so we are always in need of good quality menswear for our customers. It means a lot when people like Bob show their support by donating quality items that we can resell to fund lifesaving research.” We're asking for donations of any kind. Whether it's shoes, clothes, or even a washing machine! Book a free collection, post your items, or drop them off at your local BHF shop. Why not turn your unwanted items into lifesaving research!

To celebrate #Diwali, the BHF put on an event which was attended by Royal Mail colleagues. The occasion was a brilliant celebration of culture with some amazing feedback from attendees.   Deepa Damera shared, "I wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank you both for hosting such a fantastic Diwali celebration!   Our Royal Mail colleagues thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the event, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The vibrant atmosphere, the energy, and especially the incredible Bollywood dancing were all standout highlights!   This celebration has not only left us with wonderful memories but also inspired some fantastic ideas to enhance our future fundraising events. We’re excited to channel this energy as we look forward to our upcoming efforts to raise funds for BHF."

Our Tesco round-up results are in! The round-up raised an incredible £513,965.41 for the BHF, Cancer Research UK (CRUK) and Diabetes UK. We're so grateful to everyone who supported the initiative. The money raised will help support each charity’s information and support services. At the BHF, the money raised through the round-up appeal will now be dedicated to making our fantastic information booklets available to even more people affected by heart and circulatory diseases.
