  • Happy Friday! This week's BASE Line is now LIVE, featuring a roundup of the week's news, insights and innovation from across the category, with this week's special Big Question coming from Danny Brogan, Executive Editor - Head of Streaming at Common Sense Media. Read now: https://lnkd.in/es-St4Ae We asked Danny - MIDiA Research recently released its 'Youth versus Age' report, highlighting the differences (and similarities) in entertainment media spending across ages. What form of entertainment do you feel brings together various demographics? He said "Watching something together can be one of the most rewarding activities to do as a family. But it needs to hit that sweet spot of being entertaining across generations. Get it right, and it can start important and sometimes difficult conversations. I recently saw Inside Out 2 with my wife and two young daughters (ages 4 and 6). We all left the cinema beaming and maybe a little teary-eyed. Like the first film, Pixar tackles complex themes like anxiety. But it trusts its younger viewers, refusing to dumb down. It never felt too young or old and was an enjoyable experience for all of us." Elsewhere, we shared the news that the stars of Baby Reindeer and The Crown are among those nominated for this year's Emmy Awards. Scottish comedian Richard Gadd, creator of controversial Netflix series Baby Reindeer, has three nominations - for acting, writing and producing. • Happy Friday! This week's BASE Line is now LIVE, featuring a roundup of the week's news, insights and innovation from across the category, with this week's special Big Question coming from Jerome Mazandarani, International Marketing Specialist (Consultant) at AHAVERSE & Industry Consultant. Read now: https://lnkd.in/eRrhuzch We asked Jerome - MIDiA Research recently released its 'Youth versus Age' report, highlighting the differences (and similarities) in entertainment media spending across ages. What form of entertainment do you feel brings together various demographics? He said "Animation is a medium that brings all demographics together in cinemas and at home. Pixar's INSIDE OUT 2 is single-handedly saving the summer box office ($750m GBO in 2 weeks)! Between July-Dec 2023, on Netflix, China's MONKEY KING animation earned 42.9m views, Super Mario Bros Movie an extra 44.9m and the Studio Ghibli library amassed over 40m combined views. Animation is global, and everyone watches it." Elsewhere, we shared the news that the UK's film industry's core guilds and organisations have expressed their hopes for the next government. Their calls include sturdier support for the largely freelance workforce, such as appointing a government freelance commissioner, reducing VAT on cinema tickets to align with other European countries, and enhancing protection for creatives in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).
