Spotlight on Central Europe: BAT’s Factories Sustainability Commitment Our Pécs factory in Hungary has earned carbon neutrality certification since 2021, offsetting 1,220 tons of carbon emissions from fuels and electricity- a significant step towards BAT’s global goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. In Augustów, Poland, our facility has reduced water usage by 25%, gas consumption by 23%, and electricity consumption by 8%, demonstrating our proactive approach to environmental stewardship. Whilst our Bayreuth factory in Germany, the first in the country to receive AWS certification, has reduced water consumption by 41% since 2020 and a remarkable 69% drop since 2017. These achievements reflect our collaborative dedication to BAT’s global sustainability ambitions as we build A Better Tomorrow™. BAT is delighted to host the upcoming Cooperation Centre for Scientific Research Relative to Tobacco (CORESTA) Congress 2024, set to take place from 13-17 October at the Edinburgh International Convention Centre, Scotland, UK. CORESTA is the World’s leading conference on tobacco and related product science.  The congress will bring together leading scientists, experts and regulators from over 165 member organisations, to focus on the theme of “Advancing Tobacco Harm Reduction through Scientific Collaboration”. At APMEA West, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives remain at the forefront of our focus. With five strategically positioned manufacturing facilities spanning Algeria, Jordan, Sudan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan, we are committed to fostering long-term sustainability in our operations, with particular emphasis on water stewardship, recycling practices, emissions reduction, and afforestation efforts. To date, our accomplishments include the implementation of drip irrigation and alternate furrow techniques in Pakistan, as well as the certification of six sites under international water stewardship standards. We have also established advanced wastewater and rainwater recycling systems in Algeria, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan. Furthermore, our factory in Jordan has achieved carbon neutrality, while our afforestation project in Uzbekistan has resulted in the planting of over 30,000 trees.
