🏃♂️ As the Olympics draw closer, we look back at Eric Liddell, one of the greatest Scottish athletes of all time. He is famous around the world for the race he didn’t run! In the early 1920s, Liddell was one of our top runners, regularly winning sprinting titles and securing a place in the 1924 Olympic squad. Due to his deep-held religious beliefs, Liddell refused to run in the 100m heats, which were held on a Sunday. Instead, he chose to run the 400m on a different day, which he was good at but not the favourite. Known as “The Flying Scotsman” he ran the race at an amazing pace, won the gold by a margin of six metres and set a world record in the process. It really was a feat of the incredible 💪 Discover more Famous Scots - https://bit.ly/4clKmI8 #Paris2024 #ScotlandSport #Olympics

Scotland’s success is soaring 📈 We’ve once again clinched the top spot as the UK’s leading location outside of London for foreign direct investment (FDI), according to EY's Scotland Attractiveness Survey 🎉 A record-breaking 142 FDI projects were secured in 2023, which is a 12.7% rise from the previous year. While FDI projects into the whole UK rose by just 6%, Scotland's market share climbed to 14.4%, up from 13.6% in 2022. This is the fifth consecutive year this figure has grown, and is our largest market share in the past decade 🚀 The report also helps to cement Scotland's place as a global leader in energy transition, with investment in utility supply jumping by more than 80%. This remarkable growth is driven by our focus on low carbon and clean tech 💚⚡ Find out more ➡️ https://ow.ly/Q6t150Szn6B #ScotlandIsNow #FDI

Anna Moffat is a professional photographer based in Edinburgh, Scotland. We asked her why she became a photographer and why she chose Scotland… “Scotland is a constant source of wonder for me and provides never ending inspiration. I've always found Scottish people to be warm, humble and have a brilliant sense of humour. I live by the sea in Portobello and love looking out at a landscape which can look peaceful and still one day and fiery and dramatic the next. Scotland’s scenery is surpassed only by the people - every time I take someone’s photo I learn a little about their story and there’s nothing I love more. I first picked up a camera 12 years ago to take photos of my children and before too long decided to make a business of it. One of the biggest challenges when I first started was figuring out the business side - I had so much to learn about marketing, admin and finance whilst also teaching part time and bringing up a young family. Thank goodness for the support of my loved ones! 💙. Over the years I’ve photographed some impressive people, and my work has taken me to amazing places around the world. From the First Minister of Scotland, the US Secretary of State and tennis legend Rafael Nadal. I love photographing people, and I get huge satisfaction every time I take a photo which captures emotion, and an expression or moment which would otherwise be lost. I often have to pinch myself that I'm making a career out of something I love." Take a look at Anna's stunning photos and why she chose them... 1. Rafael Nadal - included simply because he's a legend! This was a real career highlight for me. 2. A Women in Advertising and Communications, Leadership (WACL) committee behind the scenes moment at a recent event. I have a particular interest in shooting at events which put any minority group at the centre. I loved that this group of women have come together to make a difference in their industry. 3. Dame Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock. I loved listening to her story - she was told at every turn that her dreams weren't possible but followed them anyway. 4. Pam Duncan-Glancy - I was absolutely delighted to win the PPA Scotland Editorial Photograph of the Year for this shot.

Scotland is facing a nature-climate crisis. To tackle this, we’re taking action to protect, restore and value biodiversity. Action like this is essential to reverse nature’s decline, and although the challenge may appear daunting, there’s much to build on 💚. Here we celebrate a few of our Nature Heroes (NatureScot) and the people and groups taking positive action. 🌟 Scottish Plant Recovery - Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Ten threatened native plants are being helped by the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE). The Plant Recovery Project aims to save plants from extinction in Scotland and contribute to restoration projects. It’s bringing science and horticulture together, working with landowners across Scotland to return a new generation of plants to the most suitable sites. 🌟 South of Scotland Golden Eagle Project Golden eagle numbers in the south of Scotland are growing thanks to a ground-breaking restoration project. Working closely with specialists, landowners and local communities, the award-winning South of Scotland Golden Eagle Project has increased the bird’s population to the highest number recorded for three centuries! The project has inspired the local community, and outreach to schools, businesses and community groups has been embraced. It even hosts the UK’s first-ever eagle festival! #NatureHeroes #LetsDoNetZero #NatureScot #Biodiversity 📸 Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh 📸 Phil Wilkinson Photography & Video and South Of Scotland Golden Eagle Project

In Scotland, innovation and creativity are in our DNA. Part of our progressive culture, our society and our economy 💙. A great example is the world's one and only rotating boat lift, the Falkirk Wheel. This feat of engineering reimagines how Scotland's canals can be connected. It links up the Forth & Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. Whereas once you had to open and close 44 lock gates, you can now move from one canal to the other in only 5 minutes! The Falkirk Wheel is part of a nationwide passion project to revitalise Scotland's canals. Located on the site of a former tar works, the area has been transformed and now welcomes visitors from around the world. It's a unique fusion of art and engineering, embracing modern tech. with ancient principles. 📸 IG/scotdrone #ScotlandCanals #ScotlandWaterways #Falkirk #VisitScotland #TimeLapse

Have you heard of UNLOCKED? It's an initiative that helps underrepresented emerging talent get a start in the UK’s creative industries. It was founded by Glasgow-based integrated comms agency, John Doe. They recognised that non-white ethnicities and those from low-income backgrounds were massively underrepresented in the creative industries. They decided to do something about it! The programme 'Unlocks' paid internships and has a clear goal of fairer and greater representation in the industry. Over the summer, 22 creatives will be joining some of the most exciting organisations and agencies based here in Scotland. Across the next few months, we'll follow their journeys 💙 Find out more about UNLOCKED - futuresunlocked.co.uk #Unlocked #CreativeScotland #EmergingTalent

🚲⛺ Bikepacking... who has tried this backpacking and cycling combo? It opens up a whole new world by turning a bike ride into a mini adventure! Meet Markus Stitz, a German-born filmmaker, photographer and writer, now based in Edinburgh, Scotland.
