There's lots going on right now in the planning space - one of our latest projects is producing a new design code for the district, that will set out clear expectations of good quality design principles for new development for the district 🏡🛣️ It will be a crucial document for developers, housebuilders and architects, making sure they're aware of what is required from their proposed plans before they are submitted, guaranteeing standards are upheld and removing the uncertainty which can lead to delays in the planning process. It'll also be used in determining future planning applications. We're firstly asking for residents views through a short survey on their aspirations for their local area, what they think works well and doesn't work well to influence the final document. This is a fantastic step forward to make policy district-focused, putting residents at the heart of helping to shape planning documents and meeting the needs of our community. #planning #localgov #designcode

About us
An area of contrasts, the Braintree District is an enjoyable and rewarding place to live and work. Just an hour from London in the heart of rural North Essex, Braintree District offers its visitors the quiet charm of the English Countryside, within 15 minutes of the County City of Chelmsford. The district is conveniently situated along the A12 and A120 investment corridors between London and the European ports of Felixstowe and Harwich, and is within 20 minutes drive of Stansted Airport. Constantly improving rail and road connections together with the development of Stansted Airport as London’s third airport have led to significant population and economic growth within the area. At Braintree District Council, our corporate strategy has been developed by asking our residents what is important to them, and how we can improve things. There are six priorities in our corporate strategy for 2020-2024: - Connecting people and places - Enhancing our environment - Supporting our communities - Promoting prosperity - Delivering and innovating Our staff and elected members are committed to delivering this strategy and, as we take our priorities forward, we will continue to consult with and listen to the views and opinions of our residents. Exciting news. 📣 We’ve agreed to transfer a new multi-use community centre in the pipeline for Witham to Witham Town Council. The two-storey centre, set to be built on land off Haygreen Road, will include a mixed-use hall, kitchen, bar area and changing rooms to serve sports players using the adjacent football pitch. Once building work is complete, the £4 million asset will be transferred in its entirety to Witham Town Council who will then manage as well as own it. The communities in and around Witham will be able to use the hall to play sports, attend meetings or events and go to social clubs. With this joined up approach, we are very pleased to be supporting residents and delivering an asset which will be of benefit to the community for many years to come. 📸 From left to right: Cllr Phil Barlow, Cllr Kevin Bowers, Cllr Mary Cunningham and Cllr Paul Heath standing next to the Multiuse Games Area near the site.

On Wednesday, our Children, Young People & Safeguarding Officer Lucy Wilson and Trainee Licensing Officer, Jessica Moore joined Essex Police as part of #OpHenderson at Witham Train Station to speak to workers about how to recognise and report the signs of child exploitation and vulnerability. Essex Safeguarding Children Board (ESCB) says research shows children and young people can be exploited when using transport networks. They may use trains, buses or taxis in an attempt to disappear, while offenders may use rail and bus networks to traffic young people for sexual and criminal exploitation. And rail stations are anonymous places which provide shelter and access to food and drink.

Braintree Town Hall has been shortlisted as a finalist for next year’s Essex Wedding Awards, in the category celebrating historical venues. These awards shine a light on the best in the wedding industry and have been recognising talented businesses from across the county for the past 13 years. The town hall opened in 1928 and its design provides an insight into civic pride and the artistic expression of that era. The murals painted on the ceilings complement the original interior décor including the rich wood panelling and Portland stone fireplaces and mantle pieces. With many of the original features still intact, the council owned venue offers an elegant and memorable setting for weddings. The winners from each category will be announced at an awards dinner at Chelmsford Racecourse on Thursday, 21 November. #weddings #weddingvenue #historicbuildings
