Connecting dog owners with trusted local people who would love to look after their dog for walks, overnight or holidays
About us
BorrowMyDoggy connects dog owners with trusted local people who would love to look after their dog. We make it easy to arrange walks, playtime, overnight stays or holidays. Our aim is to help dog owners when they need it, provide new and healthy experiences for their dogs and to allow people without a dog to spend quality time with one. Rikke Rosenlund founded BorrowMyDoggy in 2012 after taking care of a neighbour’s dog “Aston” for the day. She soon realised that dog owners could use a helping paw looking after their dog, and that there were thousands of people, just like her, who would like to take care of a dog, simply because they love dogs. BorrowMyDoggy is now the most active online communities of dog lovers, with over 500,000 members throughout the UK and Ireland. We’ve successfully connected thousands of owners and borrowers and the business is going from strength to strength. Over 13 million people own a dog in the UK and Ireland. Dog owners come in all shapes and sizes - they could be families, retired people, students, professionals and more. Some may have gone through life changes, which drive their need for help - having a baby, moving house, changing job or maybe relationship changes. “Owners should be aware of the huge benefits that BorrowMyDoggy can bring to their dog. The positive psychological impact on the dog is the biggest thing that owners won’t realise until they do it.“ Our Borrowers are often unable to own a dog, but just want to spend some time with one for the love of dogs, not money. They could also be trialling caring for a dog before buying one - it’s a great way to test the water, especially with different breeds. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to test your kids with a dog, too. “I grew up with dogs all my life, but when I moved, I had to leave my two Dalmatians behind with my family. Work commitments and an inflexible rental agreement mean I can’t have a dog of my own.” Sign up today at BorrowMyDoggy.com

Thank you so much for sharing Helen 💕 We hear so many wonderful stories from students about the impact borrowing a dog has on their mental wellbeing - dogs really are the best therapy 🐶 We look forward to seeing more pupdates!
🐶🐾For the past few weeks, my housemates and I have been using BorrowMyDoggy and it’s made a significant difference in our mental health. Spending time with a furry friend has lifted our moods, reduced stress and got us outdoors🐾🐶 If you’ve always grown up with dogs and are now in situations where you can’t commit to one (such as university, finances or having a busy lifestyle) it can be hard without even realising it. The comfort, companionship, and routine of having a dog around often play a huge role in emotional well-being, providing a calming presence and a reason to get outside and unwind. If you’re missing your dog from home, longing for your childhood pet, or just want the mental health benefits that come with canine companionship without the full-time commitment, I highly recommend BorrowMyDoggy💕

🦮 Tips for walking your dog in the dark 🌙 Now the nights are rolling in much earlier, here are some top tips to keep you and your dog safe during those darker evening strolls: 1. Wear reflective gear: Make sure both you and your dog are visible. Reflective vests, collars, and leads are essential for catching the attention of drivers and cyclists. 2. LED collars: LED accessories for your dog’s collar or lead can provide extra visibility in low-light conditions. 3. Bring a torch: Light up your path to avoid obstacles and give yourself a clear view of any potential hazards. A headtorch keeps your hands free for treats! 4. Stay on well-lit paths: Whenever possible, choose routes that have streetlights or are well-lit. This makes it easier for you to see where you’re going and for others to see you. 5. Use a shorter lead: A shorter lead gives you more control in the dark and helps you keep your dog close by, especially in unfamiliar areas. 6. Stay alert and avoid distractions: Keep your eyes and ears open. Avoid distractions like your phone, and stay aware of your surroundings and your dog’s behaviour. With these tips, you and your BorrowMyDoggy buddy can enjoy safe, enjoyable walks no matter what time of day. 🌟🐾

🎃🐾 Howloween safety tips for your doggy 🐾🎃 Spooky season is here! While we love the fun and excitement of Howloween, it’s important to keep our canine companions safe and comfortable during the festivities over the next week or so. Here’s our top tips: 1. Keep the treats for hoomans only 🍫🍬 Halloween treats, like chocolate and sweets containing xylitol, are toxic to dogs. Be sure to store these out of your dog’s reach! 2. Watch out for door dashes 🚪🐕 With trick-or-treaters coming and going, the constant door opening can be a chance for your dog to dash outside. Consider keeping them in a separate room or using a baby gate. 3. Choose your decorations wisely 🎃🕯️ Keep candles, electric cords, and small decorations out of reach. Opt for flameless candles to be extra safe. 4. Create a calm space 🛋️🐾 Halloween can be overwhelming for some dogs with the doorbell ringing and people in costumes. Create a quiet, safe space where your dog can relax away from the hustle and bustle.
