About us

Join our network on our website: blackapprenticenetwork.co.uk We, at the Black Apprentice Network (BAN), are the first apprentice community that has ever been established nationally. And we wanted the first to be for our black community. Contact us: [email protected] Starting in the UK, we created a vibrant community for aspiring and current apprentices of African and Caribbean descent where they can learn, connect and grow together, helping them succeed before their apprenticeship, during and beyond. We at BAN are guided by the values of: COMMUNITY-DRIVEN - We been found there was no community built for African/Caribbean apprentices. We therefore created a space for growth, a space for sharing experiences and a space for collaboration for current and aspiring apprentices. TRANSFORMATION - We strive not merely engage with current and aspiring apprentices, but transform their professional lives through this community. We want to see profoundly impact whoever engages with us and leave our community better after engaging with us. KAIZEN - This is the Japanese word for continuous, never-ending improvement. We want to make sure we are finding and utilizing new, innovative ways of helping aspiring and current apprentices achieve their goals, succeed professionally and find community.

WE ARE LIVE!⚡️ We hosted our first official event, and it was a smashing success. Sold out almost instantly every time we increased capacity! That’s what we love to see. We were a family of 100 people on Friday! Planting seeds: cultivating lifelong relationships 🌱☀️ . Just like the name of the event says, our goal was to enable young black professionals and students to develop professional relationships with each other. We wanted to provide the opportunity for aspiring apprentices to meet role models who have a similar background to each other. We started with an introduction to the mission of The Black Apprentice Network (BAN), what we plan to do, what we have done and what matters to us. We were able to share our experiences and provide advice via our two panels. Special shout-out to our panellists‼️ With our first panel consisting of Fenton, Alisha, Kwesi and Safiya. Then Sydney, Naomi, Lamar and Rubin on our second panel. Apprentices in all different industries and an aspiring apprentice who managed to land multiple offers from large organisations. We talked about their reasons for choosing apprenticeships over the traditional university route, how their friends/family reacted, how they plan to leverage their position as an apprentice for their careers and a range of questions from the aspiring apprentices. Thank you to everyone that shared their unique experience of apprentices from African and Caribbean heritage. 🗣 We had an exciting evening of networking afterwards where we made sure our aspiring apprentice and current apprentices connected. Our apprentices were excited to share their experiences, and we saw our ambitious aspiring apprentices go the mile to connect and learn. One thing that stood out was the energy of the room and how comfortable everyone was to be among their peers. Good vibes and enjoyment that’s what we expect to bring to every event🤩. If you are currently an apprentice or aspire to be one, are from African or Caribbean heritage, make sure to look at our page and join our community. https://lnkd.in/emPmHhn3 Next stop: The Midlands 👀 XX/05/2023 #community #network #blackexcellence #apprenticeship #socialmobility #opportunity #blackapprenticenetwork

  • For those that think they know what great apprenticeship applications are about... 😁 You are wrong 🙅♂️ Great apprenticeship applications are not about having the greatest resume (Check out what great applicantions are below 👇). Great apprenticeship applications are a constant effort to put your best foot forward at each stage of the application process. Great applications help you get apprenticeship roles but only having a great resume sets you up to fail at the next application stage.

  • We had an incredible night on Friday... 😁 ...and if you weren't there, that sucks 😂 We had 160 people that came to Deloitte leanring about the incredible culure and values of the company, along with their apprenticeship programmes, which are out now. By the way we are not sorry for clogging up your feed over the past two days, we are a community of bonafide LinkedIn warriors 🔱 On the day, we also had an incredible panel with our own Rubin Poku and Manuella V.Darko, David Iraoya & Sydney Silver (all of whom is part of the community and have given back so much) and Fawaz Bakreen who had an truly inspiring story. Dedicated thanks to Zion Sengulay - Thomas for the work he done to make this happen and happen smoothly and this was a truly great evening. (He was the one who ordered the food by the way 😁 ) But that was Friday.... Where are we tomorrow 🤔 You will see soon... 😆 ...and it may seem familar 🤔

  • We were where... 🤔 We were somewhere yesterday... 😏 We had an amazing 50-person event at the NHS England Canary Wharf HQ where we learned more about the organisation and their apprenticeships. Also, we had an absolutely incredible panel consisting of Adana Constable, Anabela Semedo, (who have also been shortlisted for the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards) and Sinthu Thakur who left the students inspired and motivated. Dedicated thanks to Lucy Hunte for the work she done to make this happen and this was an amazing evening. But that was yesterday.... Where are we today 🤔 You will see soon 😆

  • Do you want to start making money at 18 🤔 Please scroll down if not 🙅♀️ You can start earning a salary immediately with an apprenticeship 😍 And it's incredible 😆 You can start building toward your financial future very early 🕑... and you can, for those in lower income households, support the household through your apprenticeship 💸 Leaning and earning taste so sweet 😀

  • University curriculums are way too stuck in its ways... 🙅♀️ while apprenticeship curriculms adapt quickly to industry changes Let's evaluate this... 🤔 ...at least from the apprenticeship point of view (sorry university) Since most of your learning in apprenticeships is on-the-job, your learning is always going to be adaptive to what's relevant at the time. That's what your employers are asking for, that's what your customers are asking for, that's what the world is asking for. We need the university point of view too 🤔 University students, professors, anyone, let us know your perspective on univeristy curriculms below 👇 And apprentices, apprentice professors, let us know if this above is true below 👇

  • A message to the year 13s that are doing apprenticeship applications and the year 12s thinking of doing it next year 💌 P.S. It's super important to keep in mind 🤔 The best type of apprenticeship applicants aren't the people that instantly get a role in September. It isn't the ones who get great grades. It isn't even the ones who show incredible professionalism. What is it then? It is the ones who stay consistent. Even in the midst of your A-Level and college exams, it's the ones that are still applying and putting themselves out there. Good luck to those still doing it.

  • University degrees are abosolutely aimless while apprenticeships offer a clear career path 🤷♂️ Let's think about it 🤔 You have the opportunity with apprenticeships to learn valuable skills which contribute to a professional working environment 🙈 Through building on this foundation 🧱... ...you get the opportunity to continue on the path and get more senior or gain more responsibility 💼... ...or through building that foundation, commit oneself to slight pivots until one finds their path 🗺️ What do you think 🤷♂️ (P.S. you can create your own path in univeristy but isn't it so much easier to do it in an apprenticeship 🤷♂️)
